Final day
Hokutofuji forced out Ryuden for his 11th win. Daieisho and Kotoshoho had to redo the bout. After the 2nd try, the judges again called for the bout to be reevaluated. They decided, Kotoshoho was inactive while he fell and gave the bout to Daieisho who clinched his 10th win. Takayasu forced out Tamawashi to clinch a majority win. Tochinoshin forced down Takanosho for his 9th win. Takakeisho faced runner up Terunofuji. The ozeki lost to Terunofuji's force. As a result they tied with 13 wins each and proceeded to a play off. In the playoff, Takakeisho charged forward and gave powerful thrusts to take out Terunofuji. It's the ozeki's 2nd Emperor's Cup. He was in tears after his victory.

14th day
Tochinoshin drove out Kaisei for his 8th win. Hokutofuji forced down Oonosho for his 10th win. Terunofuji got hold of Shimanoumi and drove him out. It's the Mongolian's 12th win. Shimanoumi no longer has a chance to win the Emperor's Cup facing his 3rd loss. Takayasu pushed then fell on his rear on Kotoshoho's push down. Takakeisho gave thrusts after another to quickly drive Mitakeumi out the ring. Takakeisho remains the sole leader.

13th day
Tochinoshin with his powerful left arm forced out Okinoumi. Okinoumi succumbed to a majority loss. Tobizaru kicked Takayasu and forced the former ozeki to fall. Terunofuji and Kakuryu went for eachother's belt. In the end the former ozeki won with a push out. Takakeisho attacked and attacked Shimanoumi who resisted but in the end lost. Takakeisho is the only front runner.

12th day
Shimanoumi threw Ryuden for his 11th win. Hokutoriki drove out Tochinoshin to secure a majority win. Takayasu forced down Daieisho for his 7th win. Terunofuji quickly drove out Mitakeumi for his 10th win. Takakeisho gave thrusts to force out Takarafuji. Leading are still Shimanoumi and Takakeisho.

11th day
Shimanoumi pushed out Hoshoryu for his 10th win. Ryuden forced out Takarafuji for his 9th win. Tochinoshin picked up Kiribayama then forced him out for his 6th win. Terunofuji got hold of Myogiryu's body and drove him out for his 9th win. Takayasu pushed out Mitakeumi. Both are 6-5. Takakeisho stepped aside to force down Kotoshoho. It's the ozeki's 10th win.

10th day
Shimanoumi won again, this time by pushing out Chiyonokuni for his 9th win. Enho and Chiyotairyu faced off looking at eachother for a while. Enho then drove down his opponent for his 2nd win. Ichinojo drove out Tochinoshin. The former ozeki lost his 5th bout. Ryuden pushed out Tamawashi for his 8th win. Takarafuji and Hokutoumi fought an over a minute bout. The judges decided they fell at the same time so they had to fight again. Hokutoumi shoved and forced out Takarafuji. It's Takarafuji's 2nd loss. Terunofuji picked up Tobizaru and walked him out the ring to secure a majority win. Takayasu lost to Takanosho's push. Both are 5-5. Takakeisho shoved then pulled back to force down Myogiry fo his 9th win. Takakeisho and Shimanoumi take the lead.

9th day
Shimanoumi drove out Yutakayama to secure a majority win. Chiyokuni thrust down Tokushoryu for his 7th win. Popular Enho was able to make a strategic move, lowering his position to force out Aoiyama for his first win. Takarafuji beat Okinoumi in a bout that went over a minute. Takarafuji won his 8th bout. Terunofuji was forced out by former ozeki Takayasu. It's the Mongolian's 2nd loss. Takakeisho and Tobizaru gave eachother thrusts. In the end Tobizaru pulled away prompting the ozeki to fall. It's Takakeisho's first loss. As a result Takakeisho, Takarafuji, Shimanoumi are tied for the Emperor's Cup.

8th day
Kotoshogiku officially announced he was retiring, but he really did not want to retire. Kotoshogiku, a former ozeki fell to Juryo division, but even in that division he was only able to win 1 bout. As to the major bouts of the day... Shimanoumi drove out Chiyomaru for his 7th win. Enho fell to Akuashoma's twisted throw, succumbing to a majority loss. Tochinoshin thrust down Meisei for his 5th win. Chiyokuni stepped out during his bout against Endo for his 2nd loss. Terunofuji pushed, then Daieisho attacked the former ozeki's throat and drove him out. It's his first loss. Takayasu forced down Oonosho for his 4th win. Mitakeuji gave Tobizaru a powerful throw to win his 6th bout. Takakeisho pushed then pulled away to drive Hokutofuji down. Takakeisho is the sole leader.

7th day
Shimanoumi drove out Kaisei for his 6th win. Chiyokuni succumbed to his first loss in the bout against Hoshoryu. Takayasu drove out Kiribayama for his 3rd win. Terunofuji was attacked by Wakatakakage but with a lack of another blow, Terunofuji fought back and won. Mitakeumi pushed out Hokutofuji for his 5th win. Takakeisho pushed and pushed to force out Okinoumi. Takakeisho and Terunofuji are the only two with clean records.

6th day
Chiyokuni thrust down little Enho for his 6th win. Tochinoshin threw Kotoeiko for his 3rd win. Endo lost to Kotoshoho's push.It's Endo's 2nd loss. Terunofuji drove out Kiribayama to keep his record clean. Takayasu managed to pull away and thrust down Wakatakakage for his 2nd win. Takakeisho gave thrusts then shifted position, driving down Kagayaki.

5th day
Endo lost his first bout to Takarafuji turning his back towards his opponent and forced out. Okinoumi and Takayasu played a long bout, struggling to get hold of eachother's belt. In the end, Okinoumi pulled away and thrust ther former ozeki down for his 4th win. It's at 1 minute 21 seconds. Terunofuji powerfully forced Hokutofuji down for his 5th win. Oonosho was automatically given a win as his opponent Shodai withdrew from the tourney for injuring his ankle in a fall on the 3rd day. Mitakeumi forced out Wakatakakage for his 3rd win. Takakeisho gave thrusts after thrusts to drive out Daieisho for his 5th win.

4th day
Endo pushed out Tamawashi. Terunofuji in a competitive bout forced out Okinoumi. Hokutofuji pushed out Takayasu. Daieisho gave thrusts, forcing out Shodai. The new ozeki lost his first bout. Takakeisho looked focused, keeping his eyes on Oonosho and forcing him out to improve his record.

3rd day
Endo drove out Tokushoryu for his 3rd win. Tochinoshin slowly threw Kotoshoryu for his 1st win. Terunofuji pushed out Oonosho for his 3rd win. Wakatakekage automatically earned a win as his opponent Asanoyama pulled out with an injury. It's the first time Asanoyama withdraws from a tourney. Kiribayama got hold of Takakeisho. But the ozeki managed to at the verge of the ring, stay inside and thrust down Kiribayama to win. Shodai and Takayasu fought aggressively. In the end Shodai forced down the former ozeki for his 3rd win.

2nd day
Some of the highlights. Takayasu pushed out Kagayaki. Mitakeumi was in control but was in the end thrust down by Daieisho. Takakeisho quickly forced down Wakatakakage. Shodai this time fought a powerful bout, driving out Kiribayama. Terunofuji threw Asanoyama to win like a powerful ozeki although he is a former ozeki.

First day
The number of spectators have been doubled from 2500 at this tourney at the Kokugikan which can seat 11,000. The popular Endo pushed out huge Bulgarian Aoiyama. Tawawashi aggressively attacked former ozeki Tochinoshin and won. Former ozeki Terunofuji immediately got hold of Kagayaki and drove him out. Daiesho thrust down Takanosho. In a bout called to be redone, Mitakeumi forced out Oonosho. New ozeki Shodai was threatened by Wakatakakage's attacks from the side. The ozeki pulled back forced Wakatakage down as he left the ring. The judges ruled Shodai won the very close bout. Asanoyama quickly got hold of Kiribayama to force him out. Takakeisho gave Takayasu thrusts and pushed the former ozeki out.

Pre Tourney highlight
Both yokozuna absent 2 tourneys in a row.
Kakuryu announced on Nov 5 he is not fighting in this tourney. His back is not in good shape, according to an interview he gave to a sport daily. Then Hakuho who was at practice officially pulled out as his right knee has not fully recovered from a survery. It's his 3rd straight withdrawal from the tourney.

Both yokozuna absent 2 tourneys in a row.
This tourney is held in Tokyo instead of in Fukuoka as it usually is as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.
