Final day
Enho went right into Sadanoumi and threw him for this 9th win. Asanoyama pulled Meisei's very loose mawashi, which did not help. Meisei drove him out. Both finished 10-5. Myogiryu drove out Abi to secure a majority win even though he withdrew from the tourney for 5 days. Takakeisho quickly pushed out Okinoumi for his 12th win. Mitakaumi pushed out Endo also for his 12th win, meaning the top 2 went for a playoff. In the meantime the 2 ozeki fought. Goeido shifted a bit and drove Tochinoshin down the ring. Goeido finished with 10 wins. In the play off, Mitakeumi banged into Takakeisho. Takakeisho could not do anything but pull away. It's the 2nd time Mitakeumi wins the Emperor's Cup. After the bout Takakeisho appeared to be in pain. The last time he was forced out from the tourney was due to injury from fighting Mitakeumi.

14th day
Enho defeated Tochiozan to secure a majority win. Daieisho pushed out Meisei. Meisei is no longer in the race for the cup. Asanoyama managed to throw Tomokaze for his 10th win. Endo's foot went out while fighting Okinoumi. Okinoumi won his 11th bout. Takakeisho powerfully pushed out Ryuden for his 11th win. Mitakeumi shifted his position and drove Goeido down for his 11th win.] Tochinoshin's foot left the ring while fighting Myogiryu. The Georgian will be demoted to sekiwake as he's succumbed to a majority loss 2 tourneys in a row. The top contenders are Okinoumi, Takakeisho and Mitakeumi.

13th day
Meisei rolled to Shohozan's force and lost his 4th bout. Tsurugisho threw Takarafuji for his 10th win. Okinoumi thrust down Kagayaki for his 10th win. Endo threw Kotoshogiku to secure a majority win. Mitakeumi pushed out Myogiryu for his 10th win. Tochinoshin managed to force out Ryuden for his 6th win. Goeido was quick for force a throw on Takakeisho for his 9th win. There are 4 tied for the Emperor's Cup.

12th day
Tsurugisho thrust down Sadanoumi for his 9th win. Okinoumi pushed out Meisei. Both are 9-3. Takarafuji won his 9th bout by forcing Enho to fall. Takakeisho banged into Myogiryu and drove Myogiryu down for his 10th win. This victory has secured his promotion back to ozeki. Goeido and Ryuden had to redo the bout and Goeido won with a throw, securing a majority win. Tochinoshin was driven out by Mitakeumi. It's Mitakeumi's 9th win. The ozeki is in danger of demotion succumbing to his 7th loss. The sole leader is Takakeisho.

11th day
Meisei drive out Ishiura for his 9th win. Okinoumi loses to Tsurugisho succumbing to his 3rd loss. Enho drives out Kotoshogiku for his 7th win. Asanoyama is pushed out by Hokutofuji for his 3rd loss. Endo throws Shodai for his 7th win. Ryuden forces down Mitakeumi who succumbs to his 3rd loss. Takakeisho drives down Tochinoshin. Goeido pushes out Chiyotairyu. The leaders are now Meisei and Takekeisho.

10th day
Meisei lost to Tsurugisho. Okinoumi was defeated by Sadanoumi. There are no longer anybody with less than 2 losses. Enho drove out Kotokeiko for his 6th win. Mitakeumi drove down Tamawashi to secure a majority win. Takakeisho charged forward and forced down Shodai. The former ozeki secured a majority win, but needs 2 more wins to recover ozeki ranking. Abi forced Goeido to leave the ring. Both are 6-4. Tochinoshin fought carefully and drove out Chiyotairyu for his 5th win.

9th day
Mongolian Azumaryu forced down Enho. Kotoshogiki was thrown by Meisei who clinched a majority win. Okinoumi lost balance and fell to Ryuden's shifting position. It's his first loss. Abi attacked so hard Asanoyama lost balance, turned but kept inside the ring, then drove Abi out. Takakeisho shoved and shoved, and drove out Tamawashi. Mitakeumi pushed out Tomokaze. Tochinoshin shifted to his right and shoved down Endo for his 4th win. Goeido powerfully forced Shodai down the ring. Okinoumi and Meisei tie for the lead.

8th day
Enho was pushed down by Nishikigi taking his 3rd loss. Okinoumi drove out Oonosho to be the first to secure a majority win. Kotoshogiku easily lost to Sadanoumi. Meisei pushed out Kotokeikou for his 7th win. Asanoyama forced out Aoiyama for his 6th win. Endo was attacked by Chiyotairyu, but pulled back, forcing Chiyotairyu down. Takakeisho gave Mitakeumi thrusts after thrusts, driving him out. Both are 6-2. Kakuryu was absent. He withdrew from the tourney and Tamawashi automatically earned a win. Tomokaze shifted his position which forced Goeido to go out of the ring. It's the ozeki's 3rd low. Tochinoshin pulled away and thrust down Shodai for his 3rd win.

7th day
Enho lost to Tsurugisho. It's his 2nd loss. Meisei threw Kagayaki for his 6th win. Kotoshogiku forced himself on Terutsuyoshi to fall with him and win. Okinoumi was attacked by Myogiryu but he reversed the trend by throwing Myogiryu with his arm.It's Okinoumi's 7th win. Asanoyama drove out Ryuden for his 5th win. Abi pushed out Endo. Both are 5-2. Chiyotairyu shifted to the side forceing Takakeisho to fall. Mitakeumi pushed out Shodai for his 6th win. Tochinoshin was pushed out by Daieisho. It's the Georgian's 6th loss. Goeido forced Tamawashi out. Kakuryu was forced down by Tomokaze. Tomokaze weeped with joy after the bout. Okinoumi is the only one with a clean record.

6th day
Enho kept low and pushed out Kagayaki. Okinoumi pushed out Shimanoumi for his 6th win. Mitakeumi forced out Hokutofuji for his 5th win. Takakeisho fell on his knee during his bout against Endo. It's the former ozeki's first loss. Asanoyama threw Goeido. During the bout, the refree fell below the ring and came back with blood stains. Tochinoshin lost in a close bout against Tamawashi. Kakuryu gave thrust, pulled back and Daieisho pushed toward, to drive out the yokozuna. It's Kakuryu's 2nd loss. Okinoumi leads.

5th day
Enho drove down Daishoho. Okinoumi forced down Kotoyuki for his 5th win. Ichinojo withdrew from the tourney and Tamawashi earned an automatic win. Takakeisho forced down Hokutoumi for his 5th win. Tochinoshin managed to defeat Tomokaze. Goeido drove down Daieisho. Kakuryu was forced out by Asanoyama. It's the first time Asanoyama beats a yokozuna.

4th day
Enho did not give up, while almost being squashed by Shohozan. He was too low, when he tried a throw, he fell on the dirt. It's Enho's first loss. Kotoshogiku drove out Chiyotairyu for his 2nd win. Asanoyama seemed to be in control, shoving Endo, but he lost control and was driven out by Endo. Takakesho quickly drove out Tomokaze to keep his record clean. Goeido moved forward and pushed out Hokutofuji. Tochinoshin thrust Abi's head for a throw. But he lost the bout as juries pointed out he got hold of Abi's topnot, which is against the rule. Kakuryu forced Ichinojo down. Ichinojo fell on his right arm and as he rose, he was careful not to move his arm. Has he broken it?

3rd day
Enho did not have a good start but he kept on going low against Kotoyuki and managed to force him down. It's Enho's 3rd win. Kotoshogiku withstood,fought back and drove Myogiryu out. An exciting match between Asanoyama and Takakeisho. Takakeisho immediately thrust down Asanoyama. Tochinoshin had a tough bout but was able to shove and shove, driving Hokutofuji down the ring as he fell down too. It's the ozeki's first win. Endo drove out Goeido who succumbed to his first loss. Kakuryu forced down Aoiyama.

2nd day
It's announced Hakuho has withdrawn after complaining of breaking his finger. He was schedule to fight Abi. Abi secured an automatic win. Enho was a super fighter throwing Meisei down the ring. Takakeisho fought forward and pushed out Aoiyama. Goeido went forward and drove out Ichinojo. Asanoyama got hold of Tochinoshin's belt and forced the Georgian out. Kakuryu patiently handled Hokuyoguji by thrusting him down.

First day
Small Enho was sent to the edge of the ring, but then threw Oonosho and won. Kotoshogiku's right heel touched outside the ring while he fought against Okinoumi. Takakeisho who has been demoted from ozeki struggled against Daieisho. He withstood and in the end thrust down Daieisho. Asanoyama pushed out Mitakeumi. Tochinoshin fell forward to Ichinojo's thrust. Goeido forced Aoiyama down. Hakuho was driven out the ring by Hokutoumi. Kakuryu forced down Endo.

Pre Tourney highlight
Takanofuji in trouble again
Takanofuji who is the twin brother of Takagenji is in trouble again for attacking a lower ranking rikishi. It's come to light on Sept 3. He has been forced to withdraw from this tourney. He's ranked Juryo umber 5. He had to withdraw after attacking another in 2018. His then stable master, Takanohana was demoted in the Japan Sumo Association's position. The twins are registered with Tagonoura Stable. They used to apprentice under Takanohana before the former great yokozuna resigned from the sumo world.

Ranking for autumn tourney
According to the ranking announced on Aug 26, Takekeisho has lost his rank of ozeki due to his consecutive absence. But if he wins more than 10 bouts he can return to ozeki. Whereas Goeido and Tochinoshin could possibly lose their ozeki ranks this tourney is they do not earn a majority win.
