Final day
Takayasu forced Meisei out for his 10th win. Kotoshogiku lost easily to Terutsuyoshi succumbing to his 10th loss with 3 days missed. Enho went low into Myogiryu and threw him to win his 6th bout. Tochinoshin was pushed out by Hokutofuji succumbing to his 9th loss. Shodai faced Tobizaru. Tobizaru moved around, at one point prompting Shodai to lose balance, but at the verge of the ring, Shodai pulled away and forced down Tobizaru. With this 13th win, Shodai secured the Emperor's Cup for the first time. It's the first time ever that a Kumamoto born rikishi wins a grand tourney. He's expected to be promoted to ozeki. As to the 2 ozekis who faced eachother Takakeisho pushed down Asanoyama for his 12th win. Asanoyama recorded his 5th loss.

14th day
Takayasu pulled away to thrust down Hokutofuji and won his 9th bout. Takanosho forced down Oonosho for his 9th win. Mitakeumi gave Wakatakekage a throw to secure a majority win. Asanoyama and Shodai banged into eachother. Shodai gave a better shove to push out the ozeki. New makuuchi Tobizaru faced ozeki Takakeisho. Tobizaru moved around, but Takakeisho thrust him down. They are both 11-3. Shodai is the sole leader.

13th day
Kotoshoho slipped in the bout against Takayasu. The former ozeki clinched a majority win. Oonosho immediately drove out Takarafuji for his 10th win. Tochinoshin lost to Kagayaki, succumbing to a majority loss. Tobizaru pulled Takanosho's arm and forced him out to win his 11th bout. Wakatakekage was automatically given a win as Terunofuji pulled out from the tourney. Shodai forced Takakeisho on his belly. Shoday won his 11th bout. Asanoyama powerfully won against Mitakeumi with an overarm throw. It's his 10th win.

12th day
Tobizaru drove out Wakatakekage for his 10th win. Terunofuji lost to Oonosho. It's Oonosho's 10th win. Shimanoumi forced out Tochinoshin. Takayasu moves quickly around the ring and force Mitakeumi to fall and roll. Both are 7-5. Takekeisho automatically earns his 10th win as Endo withdrew from the tourney. Shodai immediately forced out Takarafuji for his 10th win. Asanoyama faced thrusts from Daieisho but in the end drove Daieisho out. Takakeisho, Shodai and Tobizaru tie for the lead.

11th day
Tobizaru who is a new makuuchi drove Oonosho out from behind to stay in the top pack. Enho managed to force Shimanoumi out for his 3rd win. Wakatakekage forced down Chiyotairyu to win his 9th bout. Terunofuji forced out Myogiryu for his 8th win. Tochinoshin was able to keep his foot in the ring while falling, to defeat Endo. It's the former ozek's 5th win. Shodai forced down Takayasu for his 9th win. Takakeisho gave thrusts to drive out Takarafuji. Asanowaka threw Okinoumi.

10th day
Those who secured a majority win on this way are the co-leaders. Wakatakekaze forced down Kotoshoho. Tobizaru threw Ryuden. Oonosho thrust down Takayasu. However, Terunofuji dropped out from the pack losing to Takanosho. Takakeisho remained in the leading group by pushing out Daieisho. As to others who may still have a chance, ozeki, Asanoyama automatically earned a win, his 7th as Kiribayama pulled out from an injury.

9th day
Wakatakekage forced Takayasuout for his 7th win, to tied with the leading crowd. Terunofuji too won by driving down Hokutofuji on his belly. Shodai and Daieisho had to redo their bout after the judges ruled a tie. Shodai was able to stay inside the ring while forcing dowen Daieisho for his 7th win. Takakeisho pushed and pushed to drive out Kiribayama. Asanoyama got hold of Tochinoshin and threw him down. It's the ozeki's 6th win. It's a crowded 6 tying for the lead.

8th day
Little Ishiura fights for the first time this tourney and forced down Shimanoumi for his first win. Kotoshogiku is powerless in the end in his bout against Hoshoryu. Takayasu force Terotsuyoshi on his hand for his 6th win. Terunofuji drive out Tamawashi for his 6th win. Shodai manages to drive out Myogiryu. Asanoyama is automatically given a win as Yutakayama pulled out. Tochinoshin shifted position and forced Takakeisho down. It's the ozeki's 2nd loss. There's a whole pack tying for first place.

7th day
Kotoshogiku was back after pulling out for 2 days. He beat Enho for his 2nd win. Takayasu pushed forward and fell but Aoiyama's foot was out of the ring first. The former ozeki won his 5th bout. Terunofuji drove out Endo from behind and won. Tochinoshin struggled by managed to drive out Daieisho. Tamawashi pushed out Mitakeumi. Okinoumi thrust down Shodai. It's Shodai's 2nd loss. Takakeisho gave thrusts and forced out Yutakayama. Both finished the bout showing signs of pain, Yutakayama his foot, the ozeki his neck. Asanoyama quickly pushed out Terutsuyoshi for his 4th win.

6th day
Oonosho lost to Chiyotairyu. There is no longer anybody with a perfect record. Terunofuji quickly got hold of Okinoumi and drove him out. Mitakeumi thrust down Endo for his 4th win. Shodai drove out Tochinoshin for his 5th win. Asanoyama skillfully drove out Myogiryu to make his record even. Takakeisho gave Terutsuyoshi thrusts and thrusts and won.

5th day
Oonosho pushed out Aoiyama to win his 5th bout, the only one with a perfect record. Enho moved around and managed to get behind Ryuden and drove him out. It's Enho's first win. Former ozekis faced eachother Tochonoshin managed to throw Takayasu for his 2nd win. Terunofuji forced out Daieisho. Takakeisho quickly pushed out Myogiryu for his 4th win. Asanowaka pushed out Tamawashi to win his 2nd bout.

4th day
Enho lost his 4th bout to Oonosho who earned his 4th win. Takayasu drove out Kiribayama. Both are 3-1. Tochinoshin easily lost to Takarafuji taking his 3rd loss. Terunofuji pushed out Shodai for his 2nd win. Asanoyama with thrusts drove out Hokutofuji for his 1st win. Tamawashi attacked Takakeisho, then the ozeki seemed to pause,and bang with a push drove Tamawashi out. It's the ozeki's 3rd win.

3rd day
Tochinoshin won his first bout by pushing out Yutakayama. Takanosho pushed out Mitakeumi. Both are 2-1. Shodai quickly forced Endo out for his 3rd win. Takakeisho pushed then pulled back, and lost to Hokutofuji's push out. It's the ozeki's first loss. Asanoyama was thrown by Terunofuji. The ozeki has not won a bout.

2nd day
Takayasu drove out Ryuden for his 2nd win. Mitakeumi forced Terunofuji out from behind for his 2nd win. Takanosho attacked Asanoyama and drove him out. It's the ozeki's 2nd loss. Takakeisho pushed and pushed to push out Okinoumi.

First day
The tourney is taking place with up to 2500 spectators allowed. Kotoshogiku forced out Kaisei. Enho pulled away and that prompted Wakatakakage to push him out. Takayasu fought a long sumo against Takarafuji. They both were struggling for a good grip of eachother's belt. In the end the former ozeki won in a 1 minute 49 second bout. Tochinoshin lost to Kiribayama's attack on his leg. Mitakeumi shoved and shoved and forced out Hokutofuji. Shodai immediately pushed out Takanosho. Terunofuji, winner of last tourney easily lost to Takakeisho's push. Asanoyama fought with poor balance and in the end was thrown down by Endo.

Yokozuna absent from first day for the first time in 37 years
It was announced on Sept 11, the both Hakuho and Kakuryu will not be taking part in the autumn tourney as they have not recovered from their injuries. For Hakuho it's his right knee, who need 3 weeks of rehab. For Kakuryu it's his rear, for which he needs to rest 2 weeks. There are speculations the 35 year old yokozunas might be pressured to retire if they do not fight in November.

COVID-19 cluster in Tamanoi Stable
Japan Sumo Association announced on Sept 5, a Tamanoi stable rikishi tested positive for COVID-19. The rest of those in the stable were tested. On Sept 10, another 18 were reported infected. Noone from Tamanoi will be allowed to fight in the autumn tourney.
