Final day
All eyes were on Takayasu. His win would mean he takes away his first Emperor's Cup. But he fell backwards in the bout against Abi. With both 12-3, they needed to face eachother again. In other bouts, Mitakeumi powerlessly lost to Nishikigi finished with 9 losses. Hoshoryu drove out Kiribayama for his 11th win. Shodai powerlessly lost to Hokutofuji.It's his 9th loss. He will be demoted from ozeki and fight as sekiwake in the New Year tourney. Takakeisho attacked Wakatakakage and thrust him down to win, and proceed to the run off of 3. It's the first time in 28 years for a run off of 3. In the run off, Takayasu immediatly fell to Abi's thrust and could not get up for a while. Then Abi faced Takakeisho. He attacked the ozeki and won. Abi clinched the Emperor's Cup for the first time.

14th day
Takayasu pulled away and forced down Kagayaki. The former ozeki won his 12th bout. Wakatakakage pushed out Hokutofuji to secure a majority win. Hoshoryu pushed but on the verge of the ring, Abi forced him down. It's Abi's 11th win. Hoshoryu is no longer among the top contender. Takakeisho showed his power, pushign out Ohho and winning his 11th bout. Mitakeumi pushed, then Shodai pushed back and won. Both are 6-8.

13th day
Abi forced out Kagayaki for his 10th win. Takayasu threw Ohho on his bellie for his 11th win. Mitakeumi forced Hokutofuji down. Both are 6-7. Wakatakakage drove out Nishikifuji for his 7th win. Tamawashi pushed out Shodai. Succumbing to a majority loss, Shodai will be demoted from ozeki. Takakeisho pushed and pushed to force out Hoshoryu. Both are 10-3. Takayasu is the sole leader.

12th day
Takayasu forced down Ryuden for his 10th win. Kagayaki pushed out Kotonowaka for his 9th win. Ohho forced down Hoshoryu. Both are 10-2. Abi threw Wakatakakage for his 9th win. Mitakeumi had good control of the bout. He forced out Sadanoumi. They are both 5-7. Takakeisho pushed out Nishikifuji for his 9th win. Shodai easily lost to Kiribayama taking his 7th loss. Kiribayama clinched a majority win.

11th day
Abi pushed out Ohsho who faced his 2nd defeat. Takayasu forced out Nishikifuji to win his 9th bout. Hoshoryu got hold of Mitakeumi's belt and forced him out. It's Hoshoryu's 10th win. Shodai drove out Wakakakakage. Takakeisho forced Hokutoji to run out the ring. The ozeki secured a majority win. Hoshoryu is the sole leader.

10th day
Ohsho drove out huge Bulgarian Aogiyama for his 9th win. Nishikigi pushed out Ichinojo to clinch a majority win. Takayasu forced down Tobizaru for his majority win. Midorifuji defeated Mitakeumi in a long bout of 1 min 28 sec. With this loss, Mitakeumi's chance to win 2 digit has vanished, meaning he no longer has a change to be reinstate to ozeki rank. Takakeisho pushed out Kiribayama for his 7th win. Hoshoryu pushed down Shodai. It's still Hoshoryu and Ohsho tying for the lead.

9th day
Nishikigi thrust down Abi. Both are 7-2. Meisei forced out Takayasu. It's the former ozeki's 2nd loss. Hoshoryu threw Sadanoumi to clinch a majority win. Wakatakakage lost to Midorifuji succumbing to his 4th loss. Mitakeumi powerlessly was defeated by Wakamotoharu. Daieisho easily pushed out Shodai. Shodai lost his 5th bout. Takakeisho patiently faced Tobizaru's shoves, butin the end, the ozeki was pushed out taking his 3rd loss. Hoshoryu and Ohsho lead.

8th day
Abi pushed out Endo for his 7th win. Ura won his first bout by pushing out Ichinojo. Kotonowaka forced Mitakeumi down to succumb to his 4th loss. Hoshoryu threw Tobizaru for his 7th win. Takakeisho with thrusts drove out Wakamotoharu. Sadanoumi forced Shodai out with a throw. It's Shodai's 4th loss.

7th day
Takayasu forced Daieisho down on his hands to win his 6th bout. Kiribayama forced out Mitakeumi. It's the former ozeki's 3rd loss. Hoshoryu hooked his leg to force down Wakamotoharu. It's Asashoryu's nephew's 6th win. Shodai thrust down Ura for his 4th win. Takakeisho immediately pushed out Midorifuji for his 5th win.

6th day
Abi forced down Kotoshoho for his 5th win. Tochinoshin drove down Oonosho for his 3rd win. Hoshoryu shifted and drove Daieisho down for his 5th win. Former ozekis faced eachother.Takayasu got hold of Mitaeumi's belt and forced him out. Takakeisho with full force pushed out Ura. Shodai managed to push down Midorifuji for his 3rd win.

5th day
Takayasu drove out Tamawashi for his 4th win. Wakatakakage pushed Ura out while he himself fell, and managed to win his 3rd bout. Ura has not won yet. Mitakeumi managed to force down Tobizaru to win his 4th bout. Hoshoryu got a hold of the back of Midorifuji's belt and forced him down on his back. It's the Mongolian's 4th win. Meisei forced Shodai out the ring. Both are 2-3. Takakeisho attacked Ichinojo and forced him out. It's the ozeki's 3rd win.

4th day
Tobizaru was down low, perhaps too low, in the end succumbed to Kiribayama's throw and succumbed to his first loss. Tamawashi celebrated his 38th birthday by defeating Daieisho with his first win. Mitakeumi pushed out Ura out the ring. Takayasu forced Hoshoryu down. It's the Mongolian's first loss. Kotonowaka thrust down Wakatakakage. Takakeisho pulled away. Meisei took advantage of that the drove out the ozeki. Ichinojo drove out Shodai. There is noone with a clean record anymore.

3rd day
Tobizaru charged into Tamawashi and forced the veteran Mongolian out for his 3rd win. Hoshoryu also won his 3rd bout by forcing out Ichinojo. Wakatakakage forced out Meisei for his 2nd win. Mitakeumi fell forward to Daieisho's thrust. It's the former ozeki's first loss. Shodai pushed out Kotonowaka for his 2nd win. Takakeisho was driven down by Takayasu facing his first loss.

2nd day
Tochinoshin thrust down Myogiryu for his first win. Tobizaru gave thrusts and forced down Meisei for his 2nd win. Wakatakakage drove out Kiribayama for his first win. Ichinojo pushed forward then Mitakeumi gave a slow push out to win his 2nd bout. Hoshoryu forced Tamawashi's foot to leave the ring and the Mongolian won his 2nd bout. Takakeisho gave thrusts and drove down Kotonowaka for his 2nd win. Takayasu was powerless, losing to Shodai.

First day
Ura rolled on the dirt succumbing to Kiribayama's thrust. Ichinojo pushed out Tamawashi. Mitakeumi gave Meisei no chance and won with a push out. Mitakeumi is fighting has been demoted from ozeki to sekiwake this tourney. But if he wins more than 10 bouts, he can be reinstate to ozeki. Takayasu and Wakatakakage fought aggressively against eachtother. In the end the former ozeki won with a push out. Tobizaru drove out Shodai. Shodai will be demoted from his ozeki status if he does not win a majority this tourney. Takakeisho gave a powerful push to defeat Daieisho.

Terunofuji pulls out
Japan Sumo Association announced on Nov 11 Terunofuji will withdraw from the Kyushu tourney. He had surgeries on both knees in Oct, and needs time to get back in shape.

Abuse suspected toward stable master's wife
Japanese media report that Ichinojo has abused the wife of his stable master Minato and the Japan Sumo Association held a hearing, contacting both Ichinojo and Minato. Ichinojo is reported to have drinking problems.

Atamifuji is one of the fastest to advance to makuuchi
On Oct 31, Japan Sumo Association announced Atamifuji will fight in the makkuchi division. He took just 12 tourneys to reach the rank which is the the 8th fastest since grand tournaments are held 6 times a year. Terunofuji has been training him hard.
