Final day
Ichiyamamoto thrust down Kinpozan for his 11th win. Takayasu pulled back and drove down Takarafuji for his 10th win. Shodai and Kinpozan had to redo their bout after a draw. Shodai was able to drive him out. Both finished 6-9. Ura pulled the over 2 meter Hokuseiho then shoved him down to secure a majority win. Asanoyama forced down Abi to win his 4th bout after 7 days of absence. Kotonowaka quicky forced down Atamifuji. Both finished 11-4. Hoshoryu drove Daieisho out for his 10th win. Kirishima forced down Takakeisho. Kirishima won the Emperor's Cup for the 2nd time.

14th day
Ichiyamamoto thrust down Raiden for his 10th win. Takayasu quickly drove out Kinpozan for his 9th win. Asanoyama forced down Shodai to win his 3rd bout. Kotonowaka drove Shonannoumi on the dirt for his 10th win. Daieisho's powerful thrusts forced Takakeisho to fall of the ring. Both are 9-5. Hoshoryu trew Midorifuji for his 9th win. The top contenders faced eachother. Kirishima got hold of Atamifuji's belt and forced him out. Kirishima is the sole leader.

13th day
Mitakeumi pushed out Tamawashi to clinch a majority win. Shodai lost to Kinpozan's push out succumbing to a majority loss. Atamiumi pushed out Takayasu to win his 11th bout. Asanoyama managed to drive out Wakamotoharu. It's the former ozeki's 2nd win. Daieisho fell forward to Kirishima's thrust. It's Kirishima's 11th win. Takakeisho immediately forced Hoshoryu down fo his 9th win. Atamiumi and Kirishima continue to lead.

12th day
Ichiyamamoto fought with his head lowered and drove out Nishikigi for his 9th win. Takayasu drove down Ryuden to win a majority. Ura pulled Shodai's arm and toppled the former ozeki. Shodai dragged his foot after the bout. Hokutofuji drove out Asanoyama. Kirishima forced out Kotonowaka for his 10th win. Kotonowaka succumbed to his 3rd loss. Takakeisho pushed out Wakamotoharu for a majority win. Atamifuji thrust down Hoshoryu for his 10th win. Kirishima and Atamifuji lead with 10 wins each.

11th day
Atamifuji powerfully pushed out Chiranoumi for his 9th win. Ichiyamamoto fell forward in the bout against Daieisho succumbing to his 3rd loss. Kotonowaka drove Takakeisho out from behind for his 9th win. The ozeki took his 4th loss. His hope to win yokozuna ranking has vanished. Hoshoryu threw Asanoyama to secure a majority win. Kirishima got hold of Wakamotoharu and drove his out. Atamifuji, Kotonowaka and Kirishima tie for the lead.

10th day
Ichiyamamoto lost to Hiradoumi for his 2nd loss. Atamifuji pushed out Shonannoumi for a majority win. In a close match Meisei drove down Shodai. Kotonowaka threw Gonoyama to clinch a majority win. Asanoyama lost to Daieisho's shove. Hoshoryu leaned on Wakamotoharu and forced him down. Kirishima forced out Nishikigi for a majority win. Takakeisho thrust down Abi for his 7th win. As Ichiyamamoto lost, 4 are tied for the lead.

9th day
Ichiyamamoto thrust out Tamawashi to be the first to secure a majority win. Chiranoumi forced down Endo for his 7th win. Atamifuji drove down Oonosho for his 7th win. Asanoyama and Kirishima fought a competitive bout. In the end, Asanoyama touched the dirt slight before Kirishima's heel touched outside the ring. Asanoyama succumbed to a majority loss. Takakeisho managed to drove down Nishikigi. Kotonowaka drove down Hoshoryu for his 7th win.

8th day
Ichiyamamoto beat Takarafuji and won his 7th bout. Atamifuji threw Takanosho for his 6th win. Midorifuji hurled Miyogiryu for his 6th win. Takayasu managed to stay within the ring in the match against Ura to win his 5th bout. Shodai drove out Kotonowaka. It's Kotonowaka's 2nd loss. Asanoyama applied to fight from this day. He was matched up to fight Takakeisho. On the verge of the ring, both tried to throw eachother. Takakeisho fell first to sucuumb to his 3rd loss. Hoshoryu gave thrusts, then lost balance and touched the dirt to lose the bout to Nishikigi. Kirishima drove out Hokutofuji from behind. Ichiyamamoto became the sole leader.

7th day
Ichiyamamoto was driven out by Sadanoumi to take his first loss. The bout of Hokuseiho and Midorifuji had to be stopped after it exceeded 3 minutes, as a rule. The bout was resumed with the 2 returning to the same position when it was stopped. They stood idle, but Midorifuji lost patience, kicked Hokuseiho, and fell first on the dirt. Hokuseiho was given an overarm throw win in a total 6 minutes 40 seconds bout. Takayasu thrust down Meisei for his 4th win. Ura defeated Kotonowaka on the verge of the ring. It's Kotonowaka's first loss. Hoshoryu pushed out Abi's from behind for his 6th win. Kirishima threw Tobizaru for his 5th win. Goeido with full force drove Takakeisho out the ring. It's the ozeki's 2nd loss. There's no one with a clean record anymore.

6th day
Ichiyamamoto thrust down Nishikifuji for his 6th win. Atamifuji was driven out by Sadanoumi to take his first loss. Daieisho dropped after Shodai clashed into him facing his 2nd loss. Kotonowaka struggled against Hokutofuji but managed to push Hokutofuji out to keep his record clean. Gonoyama forced Kirishima to fall on his hand. It's the ozeki's 2nd loss. Takakeisho pushed out Tobizaru from behind to win his 5th bout. Takayasu grabbed Hoshoryu's leg and toppled him. It's the Mongolian ozeki's first loss.

5th day
Mitakeumi had to redo his bout against Sadanoumi after falling together. The former ozeki thrust him down in the 2nd try and won. Both are 2-3. Atamiumi forced out Kotoeiko for his 5th win. Shodai had to fight Tobizaru for the 2nd time and lost balance to Tobizaru's movement. Kotonowaka forced down Daieisho for his 5th win. It's Daieisho's first loss. Takakeisho pushed down Takayasu for his 4th win. Hoshoryu took his time, too much time, the bout would not be fought. Gonoyama rose from his ready to fight position several times, to redo the start. Finally when they both stood up to fight, Hoshoryu quickly forced down Gonoyama for his 5th win. Kirishima thrust down Meisei for his 4th win.

4th day
Shodai won his first bout by thrusting down Gonoyama. Kotonowaka charged forward and pushed out Abi for his 4th win. Daieisho attacked Ura and won to keep his record clean. Hoshoryu forced out Tobizaru for his 4th win. Takayasu started fast and attacked Kirishima to thrust the ozeki out. Takakeisho and Meisei clashed into eachother. The ozeki lost balance and was drive out. 2 ozekis lost their first bout.

3rd day
Mitakeumi forced out Kotoeiko for his first win. Atamifuji drove out Kinpouzan for his 3rd win. Daieisho and Takayasu fought a competitive bout. Takayasu pulled back and Daieisho won with a push out for his 3rd win. Kotonowaka in an even more competitive bout forced Meisei down for his 3rd win. Kirishima shoved Shodai's throat and forced him out to win. Takakeisho thurst out Ura. Hoshoryu forced down Hokutofuji. All 3 ozeki kept their records clean.

2nd day
Atamifuji drove out Mitakeumi. Daieisho had to redo the bout against Gonoyama. In the 2nd round, Daieisho forced down Gonoyama for his 2nd win. Takayasu lost to Kotonowaka's push. Wakamotoharu was able to drive out Meisei. Takakeisho forced down Shodai. Hoshoryu pushed out Ura. Kirishima went straight into Abi and forced him out. All ozeki won.

First day
Russian Roka who's fighting for the first time in the makuuchi division faced another newcomer to the division Chiranoumi. In a close bout, Roka's foot slipped out the ring first and lost. Former ozeki Mitakeumi lost to Ryuden. Last tourney's runner up, Atamifuji threw Myogiryu. Hokuseiho celebrated his 22nd birthday by driving out Takanosho in an over 1 minute bout. Abi attacked Goonoyama and won. Kotonowaka pushed out Tobizaru. Takayasu threw powerfully Wakamotoharu. Daieisho gave thruests and defeated Meisei. Hoshoryu forced out Shodai. Kishishima drove Ura down. Takakeisho charged forward and pushed out Hokutofuji.

Pre Tourney highlights
Terunofuji pulls out again
Terunofuji has not recovered from a back problem. He withdrew for the 3rd consecutive time from the grand tourney. In total it will be the 19th grand tourney he would miss. As a yokozuna this will be his 8th grand tourney withdrawal.

Former Asashio passes
On Nov 2, former ozeki Asashio died at the age of 67. He was a popular ozeki for being friendly and charming. As a stable master he raised Mongolian Asashoryu to become yokozuna. He died from cancer.
