Verdict towards Asanoyama
Japan Sumo Association decided on June 11 to suspend Ozeki Asanoyama from appearing in 6 grand tourneys as a punitive measure for lying and breaching COVID-19 measures. Asanoyama visited night clubs several times under the state of emergency and during the grand tourney. Asanoyama will fall to Sandanme division if the penalty is not eased, meaning after fall under Juryo he will not receive any salary.

Final day
The big two foreign rikishi Tochinoshin and Kaisei faced eachother. Kaisei drove out the Georgian. Wakatakekage touched the dirt in the bout against Kotoeiko. Both finished 9-6. Takayasu was thrust down by Takanosho finishing 10-5. Shodai pushed out Endo for his 9th win. Endo lost his 4th bout. Terunofuji faced Takakeisho. Takakeisho quickly forced Terunofuji down, to tie them for the Emperor's Cup. So they held a play off. The two was cautious watching eachother's move carefully while trying to slap eachother. In the end, Terunofuji forced Takakeisho down. Terunofuji clinched the Emperor's Cup for the 4th time. It's his first tourney victory as ozeki.

14th day
Mitakeumi drove out Takarafuji for his 9th win. Takarafuji succumbed to a majority loss. Takayasu thrust down Hoshoryu for his 10th win. Ichinojo forced down Takanosho for his 9th win. The key bout of the day was between Endo and Terunofuji. In a competitive bout, both forced a throw at eachother, and they went tumbling down the ring. The referee gave the bout to Terunofuj. But the juries reviewed the bout and the verdict went to Endo's win. It's Terunofuji's 2nd loss. Takakeisho thrust down Shodai for his 11th win.

13th day
Takayasu forced Myogiryu down in a minute long bout and earned his 9th win. Terunofuji drove out Ichinojo to keep his solo lead. Shodai as he fell pushed out Takarafuji to secure a majority win and keep his ozeki post. Takakeisho charged straight towards Endo. Endo stepped aside, forced the ozeki down the ring. They are both 10-3.

12th day
Asanoyama was forced to pull out of the tourney due to a serious scandal. According to weekly magazine Bunshun, he went out to a cabaret, when such entertainment is banned during the state of emergency. He could face severe punishment. Takayasu who was schedule to fight him earned an automatic win to security a majority win. In other bouts, Endo lost to Kotokeiko, succumbing to his 3rd loss. Tochinoshin pushed down Hoshoryu for his 4th win. Shodai managed to throw Takanosho for his 7th win. Takakeisho pushed out Ichinojo for his 10th win. Terunofuji got hold of Oonosho for his 11th win. Terunofuji leads, followed by Takakeisho.

11th day
Endo pushed out Chiyotairyu for his 9th win. Ichinojo forced out Kotoeiko to secure a majority win. Takakeisho drove out Takayasu from behind to win his 9th bout. Asanoyama was pushed but at the verge of the ring forced Takanosho down for his 7th win. Terunofuji appeared to have shoved down Myogiryu but the judges verdict, he pulled Myogiryu's top knot, which is against the rule. It's the ozeki's first loss. Shodai managed to push out Oonosho for his 6th win.

10th day
Endo pushed out Kotonowaka to secure a majority win. Tochinoshin thrust down Ooamami for his 3rd win. Asanoyama managed to force out Mitakeumi. Terunofuji attacked Kiribayama then drove him out. Takayasu forced out Shodai for his 7th win. Takakeisho charged straight into Oonosho and drove him out to clinch a majority win. Terunofuji leads, followed by Takakeisho and Endo.

9th day
Bulgarian Aoiyama fought this tourney for the first time after recovering from an injury. He beat Kiribayama. Endo easily forced Kaisei to touch the dirt and won his 7th bout. Terunofuji and Takayasu fought a competitive bout. In the end Terunofuji won his 9th bout. Toyoshoryu hooked his leg on Shodai and forced the ozeki down. It's Shodai's 4th loss. Daieisho went around Takakeisho and pushed him out. It's the ozeki's 2nd loss. Asanoyama threw Oonosho to win his 5th bout.

8th day
Chiyoshoma threw Tochinoshin.It's the former ozeki's 6th loss. Takayasu in a bout that lasted over 2 minutes drove down Kiribayama. Shodai lost to Mitakeumi. It's his 3rd loss. Takakeisho thrust down Myogiryu for his 7th win. Hoshoryu hooked his leg around Asanoyama and forced the ozeki to fall. It's the ozeki's 4th loss. Terunofuji charged forward, driving Daieisho out the ring. The Mongolian secured a majority win.

7th day
Endo went straight into Tochinoshin and drove out the former ozeki. It's Endo's 5th win. Takayasu seemed to be in control of the bout against Hokutofuji. But at the verge of the ring, Hokutofuji shifted forcing down Takayasu to succumb to his 2nd loss. Takakeisho thrust down Hoshoryu. Asanoyama struggled but in the end threw Myogiryu like an ozeki to win his 4th bout. Terunofuji forced Tanosho down on his belly. Shodai shoved and Kiribayama walked out the ring.

6th day
Tochinoshin drove out Kagayaki for his 2nd win. Takayasu threw Mitakeumi in a close call. He won his 5th bout. Kiribayama overwhelmed Asanoyama with his power to beat the ozeki. It's Asanoyama's 3rd loss. Terunofuji got hold of young Mongolian Hoshoryu and forced him out. Hoshoryu is the nephew of former yokozuna Asashoryu. Myogiryu went straight towards Shodai and pushed the ozeki out. Takakeisho patiently pushed ahead while Tobizaru struggled and won with a thrust.

5th day
Takayasu easily pushed down Daieisho for his 4th win. Terunofuji kept Wakatakakage away from him, then go hold of his arm, and drove him out. Terunofuji keeps his record clean. Shodai drove Meisei down while he himself went out the ring. It's Shodai's 4th win. Takakeisho thrust down Kiribayama for his 4th win. Tobizaru tried to do tricks on Asanoyama, but fell holding the ozeki's leg. It's Asanoyama's 3rd win.

4th day
Takayasu was pushed out by Wakatakakage taking his first loss. Shodai forces out Tobizaru for his 3rd win. Takakeisho forced down Meisei. Asanoyama was not fighting in good balance, but he was able to drive out Hokutoriki. Terunofuji took hold of Mitakakeumi's belt and forced him out.

3rd day
Takayasu pushed down Meisei to win his 3rd bout. Takakeisho pushed out Hokutofuji. Asanoyama struggles against Wakatakekage and is driven down. It's in a 1 minute bout. Terunofuji got hold of the back of Tobizaru's belt and drove him out. Shodai and Daieisho seemed to loose balance and fall from the ring at the same time, but the judges ruled Daieisho fell first. It's Shodai's 2nd win.

2nd day
Kagayaki attacked Endo. Endo pulled away forcing Kagayaki to tumble down the ring. Tochinoshin drove out Tsurugisho for his first win. Takayasu and Chiyonokuni slapped eachother and in the end, Takayasu gave a big blow forcing Chiyonokuni to fall. Asanoyama powerlessly loss to Meisei. Hokutofuji twirled around and Terunofuji forced him out from behind to fin. Wakatakekage forced Shodai out. Takekeisho pushed then pulled away giving Mitakeumi a chance to push forward and win.

First day
Endo shoved Shimanoumi out from behind. Ichinojo drove out Tochinoshin. Takayasu forced out Tobizaru. New ozeki Terunofuji squeezed Meisei's arm to drive him out. Shodai forced Hokutoumi to fall. Takakeisho pushed out Wakatakekaze. Daieisho charged forward, lost balance, and was forced out by Asanoyama.

Terunofuji regains ozeki title
Terunofuji was the first ozeki, to fall to jonokuchi division, or the 2nd lowest. It's due to injury of his kneews. But after returning to the ring, won bouts after another. In the March tourney, with his Emperor's Cup victory he was promoted back to ozeki.
