(July 19 to Aug 2 Ryogoku Kokugikan)

Held in Tokyo instead of in Nagoya to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Final day
Tochinoshin thrust down Kotoshoho to win his 10th bout. Kotoshogiku faced off too low that he was immediately forced down by Hokutofuji. It's Hokutofuji's 9th win. Takayasu gave thrusts and drove down Takanosho. Takayasu won his 10th bout. Enho was pushed out by Yutakayama. Both finished 5-10. Endo drove out Tokushoryu for his 8th win. Tamawashi forced down Okinoumi for his 10th win. Daieisho quickly drove Myogiryu down fo his 11th win. Terunofuji got hold of Mitaeumi's belt and drove him straight out. With this win, Terunofuji secured the Emperor's Cup. It's for his 2nd time. Asanoyama pushed out Shodai for his 12th win to keep his face as the only ozeki. Terunofuji is the first to restart sumo from the 2nd lowest rank after falling from ozeki.

14th day
Tochinoshin forced Hokutofuji down for his 9th win. Shodai banged into Terunofuji. He tried a throw to which Terunofuji lost balance and was driven out. It's Terunofuji's 2nd loss. Kotoeiko pushed Mitakeumi, but at the verge of the ring, Mitakeumi shifted to the side and forced Kotoeiko down. It's Mitakeumi's 11th win. Terutsuyoshi immediately attacked Asanoyama's leg, driving down the ozek. Terunofuji remains the leader, followed by Asanoyama, Mitakeumi and Shodai.

13th day
Takayasu and Ishiura moved aggressively. In the end Takayasu thrust down Ishiura to secure a majority win. Kotoshogiku drove out Ryuden. It was announced Hakuho had pulled out of the tourney. He injured himself the previous day and needed 2 weeks to recover. Shodai was automatically given a win. Mitakeumi attacked, pulled back to thrust down Kagayaki. It's his 10th win. The leaders faced eachother. Terunofuji got a good hold of Asanowaka and walked the ozeki out. Terunofuji leads with 12 wins, followed by Asanowaka.

12th day
Shohozan and Tochinoshin had to redo their bout. In the 2nd try, the Georgian forced down Shohozan for his 7th win. Terunofuji and Tamawashi stopped, slapped eachother, stopped and fought. In the end, the former ozeki forced out Tamawashi. It's Terunofuji's 11th win. Takayasu threw Ikioi for his 7th win. Takakeisho pulled out and his opponent Daieisho was automatically given a win and secured a majority win. Asanoyama thew Hokutofuji for his 11th win. Hakuho pushed Mitakeumi to the verge of the ring. Mitakeui shifted position and thrust down the yokozuna. Hakuho took awhile to get back on the ring to bow. Asanoyama and Terunofuji lead.

11th day
Terunofuji forced out Tochinoshin for his 10th win. Chiyotairyu thrust out Takayasu. It's the former ozeki's 6th loss. Kotoshogiku shoved out Terutsuyoshi to secure a majority win. Enho pushed out Takanosho for his 5th win. Asanoyama forced out Kagayaki for his 10th win. Takakeisho forced Mitakeumi out which he fell. The ozeki managed to clinch a majority win, to keep his rank. Hakuho slipped, lost balance and pushed out by Daieisho. With his first loss, Hakuho tied with Asanoyama and Terunofuji for the Emperor's Cup.

10th day
Terunofuji cautiously banged into Shohozan and drove him down. It's his 9th win. Takakeisho and Aoiyama thrust eachother. The ozeki shifted his poisition and forced down the Bulgarian for his 7th win. Mitakeumi threw Asanoyama down the ring. It's the ozeki's first loss. Mitakeumi secured a majority win. Hakuho powerfully forced Hokutofuji out. The yokozuna is now the sole leader.

9th day
Terunofuji quickly forced out Sadanoumi to secure a majority win. Kotoshogiku drove out Tamawashi for his 7th win. Tochinoshin forced out Ishiura for his 6th win. Mitakeumi lost to Kiribayama. It's his 2nd loss. Okinoumi and Asanoyama were judged as fallen from the ring at the same time, so they were ordered to retake the bout. Asanoyama threw Okinoumi for a clear victory. Takakeisho and Enho had a very close bout, which the refrees ruled the ozeki won. Hakuho stepped aside to drive down Aoiyama. The yokozuna also fell down the ring. Hakuho and Asanoyama lead with perfect records.

8th day
Terunofuji forced Nishikiji out for his 7th win. Tochinoshin did not have to fight to win as his opponent, Kotonowaka withdrew from the tourney. Enho kept a low position but could not bear Kiribayama's weight and dropped on his belly. Shodai thrust down Mitakeumi. Both are 7-1. Takakeisho lost to Hokutoumi's thrust. It's the ozeki's 3rd loss. Asanoyama got hold of Aoiyama's belt and drove the Bulgarian out for a majority win. Hakuho slapped Kagayaki, then forced him down. The yokozuna secured a majority win.

7th day
Kotoshogiku drove out Nishikigi for his 5th win. Tochinoshin lost easily to Kotoeko. Myogiryu drove out Takayasu for his 6th win. Enho went down low grabbing Tamawashi's front belt, he stayed there, went forwards the drove out the big Mongolian for his 4th win. Abi withdrew from the tourney as a penalty by his stable master. He broke sumo's COVID-19 guideline and ate with friends. Mitakeumi was automatically given a win, improving his clean record. Asanoyama quickly forced out Takarafuji. Takakeisho stepped aside to thrust Kagayaki down. Hakuho powerfully drove Kiribayama out the ring.

6th day
Terunofuji forced out Kotoshoho for his 5th win. Toshinoshin threw Kotoshogiku. Both are 4-2. Enho fought low, got behind Chiyotairyu and forced him out. Mitakeumi forced down Okinoumi for his 6th win. Kiribayama took the front of Takakeisho's belt and drove the ozeki out. Asanoyama smoothly forced Oonosho out for his 6th win. Hakuho went low against Takarafuji and won.

5th day
Terunofuji was driven out by former ozeki Takayasu to take his first loss. Young Kotoshoho thew Shohozan for his 5th win. Tochinoshin managed to drive Sadanoumi down for his 3rd win. Kotoshogiku forced down Shimanoumi for his 4th win. Myogiryu pushed out young Kotonowaka for his 5th win. Mitakeumi quickly forced out Endo for his 5th win. Asanoyama struggled against Kiribayama, but in a 1 minute 20 seconds bout managed to drive the Mongolian out. Takakeisho attacked and attacked then pulled back to drive down Takarafuji. Hakuho quickly forced down Oonosho for his 5th win.

4th day
Terunofuji forced out Chiyoshoma for his 4th win. Takayasu fell to young Kotoshoho's thrust. Kotoshoho won his 4th bout. Shohozan forced down Kotoshogiku. Tochinoshin droe down Nishikigi. Enho quickly moved, shifted to the side, forced Aoiyama down. Takakeisho while falling pushed Endo out. Asanoyama pulled back, shifted to the side to drive out Daieisho. Hakuho stepped aside, forcing down Okinoumi.

3rd day
Terunofuji threw Chiyomaru fo his 3rd win. Former ozeki faced eachother. Takayasu drove out Kotoshogiku. Tochinoshin pulled back and that encouraged Myogiryu to shove and win. Abi forced Enho to fall. Asanoyama pushed forward and forced out Yutakayama. Okinoumi shoved Takakeisho's throat then the ozeki fell. Hakuho powerfully pushed out Endo.

2nd day
Terunofuji struggled against Kotoekou but managed to drive him out to win again. Kotoshogiku pulls back then moves forward to force out Chiyomaru. Former ozeki Takayasu and Shohozan do not move for a while during the bout. But the former ozeki suddenly forced Shohozan to touch the dirt. Kaisei drove out Tochinoshin. Enho went low into Tokushoryu and shoved the big one out. Takakeisho pushed then shifted his position to force down Oonosho. Daieisho was automatically given a win as Kakuryu pulled out from the tourney. Asanoyama easily drove out Endo for his 2nd win. Hakuho immediately threw down Yutakayama for his 2nd win.

First day
Instead of in Nagoya, the July tourney is held in Tokyo, so the rikishi do not have to travel during the time COVID-19 is still spreading. The audience was one forth filled, with lots of space in between the spectators. Former ozeki Terunofuji who fell to the 2nd lowest division, was back in makuuchi after a step by step promotion. As maegashira number 17, he gave Kotoyuki thrusts and won. Another former ozeki Tochioshin drove out Shimanoumi. Ryuden forced down the popular Enho. Mitakeumi drove out Takarafuji. New ozeki Asanoyama drove out Takanosho. Takakeisho attacked Yutakayama and won with a push out. Kakuryu lost balance and fell in the bout against Endo. Hakuho pulled back and drove down Okinoumi.

Pre Tourney highlight
Tochiozan retires
33 year-old former sekiwake announced his retirement on July 15 online. He was demoted to juryo for this tourney and decided it was time. He joined pro sumo in 2005.

Limited audience allowed
Japan Sumo Association announced on Jul 13, it will allow spectators to fill one forth of the capacity or 2500 spectators. They will be able to attend from 1 pm onwards instead of from 8 am as usual. It's a measure to prevent COVID-19 infection.
