Final day
2 more pulled out from the makuuchi division due to COVID-19. It's Hokutofuji and Okinoumi. As to Ichinojo, he forced Ura out to win his 12th bout. He waited for Terunofuji's result which would determine his victory or a playoff. A lower ranking makuuchi rikishi Midorifuji surprised fans by forcing down Hoshoryu to win his 10th bout. Shodai thrust down Wakatakakage to win his 10th bout. Terunofuji stepped out the ring while Takakeisho gave shoves. As a result, Ichinojo won his first Emperor's Cup.

14th day
Ura pushed out Kitanofuji for his 6th win. Ichinojo was forced out by Meisei succumbing to his 3rd loss. The exciting bout of the day was between Kiribayama and Wakamotoharu. They had to redo the bout after both seemed to have tumbled out the ring together. In the rematch, they again seemed to fall off the ring together but Kiribayama was given the win. Shohoryu threw Tochinoshin for his 9th win. Wakatakakage forced Takakeisho to lose balance and drove him out from behind. Wakatakakage clinched a majority win. Shodai forced Terunofuji down. All 3 top leaders lost.

13th day
More COVID-19 related withdrawals were announced. It's 7 from the makuuchi division alone. Ichinojo did not have to fight as Nishikiji who he was matched up with was forced to pull out. Takakeisho pushedout Shodai for his 10th win. Terunofuji powerfully drove out Wakatakakage for his 11th win. Terunofuji and Ichinojo continue to tie for the lead.

12th day
All belonging to Asakayam stable withdrew for testing COVID-19 positive. This includes former ozeki Kaiyo. In the bouts, Ichinojo pushed out Tobizaru for his 10th win. Ura lost to Kiribayama. Both are 5-7. Wakatakakage forced out Okinoumi for his 7th win. Takakeisho attacked Nishishigi and won his 9th bout. Shodai pushed out Aoiyama to secure his post of ozeki. Terunofuji pushed out Daieisho for his 10th win.

11th day
All Sadogatake Stable members had to pull out due to the spread of COVID-19. This includes Kotonowaka who was doing well. Ura forced Okinoumi to fall to win his 5th bout. Abi turned his back towards Ichinojo. Ichinojo drove Abi out for his 9th win. Aoiyama thrust down Wakatakakage.Wakatakakage succumbed to his 5th loss. Endo shoved forward against Shodai. Shodai shoved back and won his 7th bout. Takakeisho struggled against Tobizaru but in the end forced Tobizaru to lose balance and fall. The ozeki secured a majority win. Terunofuji had a tough fight against Hooshoryu. Hooshoryu tried various skills including a kick. Terunofuji did the basic of lowering his head, grabbing the young Mongolian's belt and drove him out. It's the yokozuna's 9th win. Terunofuji and Ichinojo tie for the lead.

10th day
Tobizaru pushed out Chiyotairyu to win his 8th bout. Ichinojo and Tamawashi fell together from the ring, but Ichinojo touched the dirt later, to clinch a majority win. Takakeisho drove Daieisho out from behind to win his 7th bout. Shodai forced down Ura to win his 6th bout. Terunofuji drove out Sadanoumi for his 8th win.

9th day
Tobizaru moved quickly against Shimaunoumi and forced him down. Ichinojo drove out Kiribayama for his 7th win. Kotonowaka drove out Wakatakakage for his 7th win. Abi attacked Shodai to the verge of the ring, but the ozeki shifted position and shoved Abi down to win. Takakeisho drove Wakamotoharu down to touch the dirt. It's the ozeki's 6th win. Terunofuji pushed out Endo out the ring.

8th day
Tobizaru kicks Kotoeiko and forced him to fall. It's Tobizaru's 6th win. Ura pushes out Aoiyama for his 4th win. Ichinojo is driven out by Kotonowaka. Both are 6-2. Takakeisho forces down Endo for his 5th win. Shodai manages to withstand Tamawashi's thrust then drives the Mongolian out for his 4th win. Terunofuji and Wakamotoharu fight a look bout lasting around 2 minutes, which the umpire decided to stop seeing Wakamotoharu's belt loosen. But he went on fighting pushing the yokozuna out. The bout had to be repeated from the point the umpire stopped them. It was. Terunofuji threw Wakamotoharu and won his 6th bout.

7th day
Wakatakakage won his 4th bout without fighting as his opponent Takanosho pulled out from an injury. Mitakeumi pulled out too, after a stablemate tested positive for COVID-19. Hoshoryu automatically earned a win. Ichinojo's perfect record was tarnished by Shodai who shifted position then won with a push out. Abi leapt then threw Takakeisho. Both are 4-3. Terunofuji pressed Ura's arms below his and drove Ura out the ring. It's the yokozuna's 5th win. Ichinojo continues to lead with one loss. There are 7 runner ups with 2 losses each.

6th day
Ichinojo easily drove out Mitakeumi. Takakeisho forced Ura to turn his back and pushed him out from behind. It's the ozeki's 4th win. Shodai attacked Daieisho and pushed him out for his 2nd win. Terunofuji forced down Tamawashi for his 4th win.

5th day
Takakeisho pushed out Tamawashi for his 3rd win. Wakamotoharu attacked Shodai and won. It's the ozeki's 4th loss. Ura got hold of Mitakeumi's arm and threw the ozeki. Terunofuji was driven out by Ichinojo succumbing to his 2nd loss. Ichinojo has a clean record.

4th day
Nishikigi pushed out the gigantic Aoiyama to win his 4th bout. Ura forced out Wakamotoharu for his 2nd win. Shodai drove down Hoshoryu for his 1st win. Mitakeumi thrust down Kiribayama for his 2nd win. Ichinojo got hold of Takakeisho and drove the ozeki out to win his 4th bout. Terunofuji grabbed Kotonowaka's arm and threw him. It's the yokozuna's 3rd win.

3rd day
Wakatakakage forced down Ura for his first win. Abi charged forward and pushed out Mitakeumi. Takakeisho pushed out Kotonowaka for his 2nd win. Kiribayama forced out SHodai. Terunofuji gave Takanosho an overarm throw to win.

2nd day
Ura shifted and drove out Abi for his first win. Tamawashi forced Wakatakakage to touch the dirt. Hoshoryu thrust down Takakeisho. Takanosho attacked Shodai's throat and forced the ozeki out. Kotonowaka drove out Mitakeumi. Terunofuji fought cautiously against Kiribayama for over a minute and walked him out. By the way, Asanoyama fought in Sandame division to return to the tourney after being suspended for over a year. He easily won.

First day
The Japan Sumo Association called for a moment of silence to respect the death of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. He was killed by gun shots on July 8 in Nara. As to bouts of the day,Tochinoshin forced down Hokutofuji. Hoshoryu prompted Ura to roll out the ring. Daieisho fell forward to Tamawashi's thrust. Ichinojo is back after recovering from COVID-19 and drove out Wakatakakage. Kotonowaka pushed out Shodai. Mitakeumi managed to push out Takanosho. Kiribayama went inside Takakeisho and drove out the ozeki. Terunofuji shoved forward, lost control of himself and walked out the ring when Abi shifted position.

Former ozeki Asanoyama back after suspended for violating COVID-19 rules
Asanoyama's 6 tourney suspicion ended and he will fight from July 11 in Sandanme. Takayasu and his colleagues test positive for COVID-19
It was learned on June 28, Takayasu and a lower ranker tested positive. On July 2, another rikishi was positive. As a reult it was decided that all those with Tagonomura Stable will withdraw from the Nagoya tourney.
