Final day
Midorifuji shoved Tobizaru out for his 9th win. Terutsuyoshi drove out Tochinoshin. The former ozeki finished with 11 losses. Daieisho gave thrusts and drove out Okinoumi. With this win, Daieisho secured his first ever Emperor's Cup. Takayasu rolled over in the bout against Takanosho. Both finished 9-6. Terunofuji forced Meisei who had one leg up, down. Asanoyama attacked Shodai and won with a push out. Both ozeki finished 11-4.

14th day
Kotonowaka powerfully pushed down Yutakayama for his 10th win. Akiseyama charged into Tochinoshin and drove out the former ozeki for his 9th win. Takarafuji forced out Ichinojo. Both are 9-5. Daieisho pushed than pulled back and won by thrusting down Tamawashi his 12th bout. Takayasu managed to drive out Kagayaki for his 9th win. Terunofuji stuggled against Shodai, appearing every moment to be losing balance. But in the end Terunofuji forced down Shodai. It's the ozeki's 3rd loss. Asanoyam forced Meisei to fall winning his 10th bout Daieisho is the sole leader.

13th day
Oonosho pushed out Meisei for a majority win. Tochinoshin forced out Kotoeiko for his 4th win. Daieisho pushed and pushed to drive out Ryuden. Takayasu pushed and thrust out Tamawashi for a majority win. Terunofuji pushed out Endo for his 9th win. Asanoyama threw Okinoumi with his left to win his 9th bout. Shodai pulled away and thrust down Takanosho for his 11th win. Shodai and Daieisho tie for a lead.

12th day
Hokutoriki forced out Tochinoshin who faced a majority loss. Meisei and Daieisho fought competitively, during which Daieisho looked to be in danger of losing balance but in the end forced down Meisei to win his 10th bout. Takayasu seemed to fight with good control but was driven out the ring by Okinoumi. Both are 7-5. Shodai quickly drove out Ryuden for his 10th win. Shodai and Daieisho continue to lead.

11th day
Meisei pushed out Takarafuji for a majority win. Daieisho pushed and pushed but Oonosho stepped to the side and forced Daieisho to fall to take his 2nd loss. Mitakaumi banged into Tochonoshin and drove out the former ozeki. The Georgian succumbed to a majority loss. Terunofuji pushed out Tamawashi for his 7th win. Asanoyama forced down Takanosho to secure a majority win. Shodai had to redo the bout against Okinoumi. In the 2nd try, it appeared Shodai lost but the juries ruled, Okinoumi stepped out the ring before the ozeki fell. Shodai and Daieisho tie for the lead.

10th day
Ichinojo fought a long bout lasting over 2 minutes against Midorifuji and managed to win. It's his 7th win. Daieisho powerfully drove out Hokutofuji for his 9th win to keep the lead. Former ozeki faced eachother. Takayasu pushed out Tochinoshin for his 6th win, while the Georgian succumbed to his 7th loss. Takanosho's feet remained inside the ring in a close bout in which Terunofuji lost. Both are 6-4. Okinoumi automatically earned a win as his opponent Takakeisho pulled out. Asanoyama forced out Tamawashi for his 7th win. Shodai managed to force down Endo to secure a majority win, and keep his ozeki rank.

9th day
Tochinoshin forces Meisei on his belly. It's Meisei's 3rd loss. Takarafuji drives down Daieisho. It's his first loss. Terunofuji takes hold of Ryuden's belt to drive him out. It's the former ozeki's 6th win. Shodai pushes out Tamawashi for his 7th win. Takakeisho falls on his big belly after Endo shifts to the side. It's the ozeki's 7th loss. Asanoyama drives out Takayasu for his 6th win.

8th day
Meisei drove out Akiseyama. As a result both are 6-2. Daieisho pulled back then forced down Kagayaki to be the only one to already secure a majority win. Takayasu gave thrusts and drove down Kotoshoho. It's the former ozeki's 5th win. Terunofuji threw Okinoumi for his 5th win. Tochinoshin clashed into Takanosho then pulled back and was pushed out the ring. It's the Georgian's 6th loss. Takakeisho lost balance and was driven out by Tamawashi succumbing to his 6th loss. Asanoyama pushed out Endo for his 5th win. Shodai moved around in the bout against Mitakeumi but in the end was foced out taking his 2nd loss. Daieisho is the sole leader.

7th day
Ichinojo gave Akiseyama thrusts, prompting the young makuuchi on his hand. It's Akiseyama's first loss. Endo drove out Meisei who lost his 2nd bout. Takayasu forced Hokutofuji to fall on his hand. It's the former ozeki's 4th win. Daieisho quickly pushed out Takanosho for his 7th win. Terunofuji drove out Mitakeumi for his 4th win. Asanoyama was able to force down Kotoshoho. Shodai immediately pushed out Oonosho for his 6th win. Takakeisho with quick thrusts pushed out Tochinoshin. Both are 2-5.

6th day
Akiseyama drove down Terutsuyoshi to keep his record clean. Meisei however succumbed to his first loss forced down by Okinoumi. Takayasu with his right drove out Mitakeumi. It's his 3rd win. Daieisho attacked and attacked Terunofuji and won his 6th bout. Shodai pushed out Tochinoshin for his 5th win. Takakeisho was blown away to Oonosho's push and succumbed to his 5th loss. It's Oonosho's 4th win. Asanoyama moved forward but his position was weakened in the end, pushed out by Takarafuji. It's the ozeki's 3rd loss.

5th day
New makuuchi Akiseyama shoved out Houshoryu for his 5th win. Meisei drove out Tokushoryu also for his 5th win. Daieisho charged into Takayasu and drove out the former ozeki for his 5th win. Terunofuji pushed out Hokutofuji for his 3rd win. Takakeisho forced Kotoshoho down to win his first bout. Asanoyama quickly drove out Tochinoshin for his 3rd win. Shodai struggled but was able to walk out Takarafuji for his 4th win.

4th day
Meisei defeated Shimanoumi for his 4th win. Tochinoshin drove out Endo. Both are 2-2. Daieisho with thrusts forced out Mitakeumi for his 4th win. Takayasu drove out Terunofuji. Both are 2-2. Asanoyama managed to drive out Oonosho. Shodai pushed out powerfully Kotoshoho. Takakeisho lost again to Takarafuji's throw.

3rd day
Takayasu shoved out Takarafuji from behind. It's his first win. Oonosho charged into Takanosho, driving him out for his 3rd win. Terunofuji quickly drove out Tochinoshin. Daieisho gave thrusts to force out Shodai. Takakeisho struggled against Hokutofuji, and in the end fell on his hand and knee. He has not yet won a bout. Asanoyama lost to Mitakeumi's strong face off and shove. None of the ozeki won on this day.

2nd day
Okinoumi drove out Tochinoshin for his 2nd win. Endo forced Tamawashi down for his first win. Takarafuji forced out Mitakeumi. Both are 1-1. Terunofuji lost to Oonoshi's shoves. It's Oonosho's 2nd win. Daieisho again beat an ozeki, this time forced down Takakeisho. Asanoyama managed to force down Hokutofuji for his first win. Shodai and Takayasu had a competitive bout, in which the ozeki in the end forced down the former ozeki.

First day
16 sekitori or those ranking above juryo are suspended or have withdrawn from this tourney due to COVID-19. Some of the notable rikishi in the top ranking who fought the first day... Tochinoshin forced out Tamawashi. Takayasu lost to Oonoshi's push. Terunofuji easily pushed down Kotoshoho. Daieisho attacked Asanoyama who needs a majority win this tourney to keep his ozeki rank. Daieisho pushed out the ozeki. Hokutofuji charged into Shodai. Shodai stopped him and drove Hokutofuji out. Takakeisho pushed and pushed but Mitakeumi pulled back then pushed out the ozeki.

All sumo wrestlers undergo PCR
878 members of the Japan Sumo Association are tested. As a result, many more tested positive for COVID-19. 65 are suspended from this tourney, including from 4 stables.

Kakuryu pulls out from the tourney
On Jan 8, Kakuryu decided to pull out from the tourney as his back is not well enough. He's been out 4 tourney in a row, and along with Hakuho is under pressure to take part or retire.

Hakuho tests positive for COVID-19
On Jan 5, Japan Sumo Association confirms Hakuho tested positive. He could not smell and had PCR. He was instructed directed to a hospital by the public health office. As a result, Hakuho and his stable colleagues will not be able to participate in the tourney.
