Final day
Ohnosato pulled Tamawashi's arm and forced the veteran rikishi down for his 11th win. Wakanosato with his hand on Nishikigi's belt drove him out to win his 10th bout. Ura forced a backward throw to defeat Ryuden for his 6th win. The rare technique was lauded. Asanoyama succumbed to Daieisho's thrusts. Both finished the tourney with 9 wins. Kotonowaka forced Tobizaru to tumble on the dirt to win his 13th bout. Terunofuji's power was so strong, Kirishima was lifted then flew out the ring. Terunofuji and Kotonowaka met for a playoff. In an aggressive bout, the yokozuna changed his hold of Kotonowaka, got his belt and as he forced him out, both fell from the ring. Terunofuji clinched Emperor's Cup for the 9th time. After the tourney, Kotonowaka was promoted to ozeki.

14th day
Ohnosato defeatd Sadanoumi for his 10th win. Asanoyama quickly forced out Atamifuji for his 9th win. Terunofuji did not have to fight. He was given a win as his opponent Hoshoryu pulled out with an injury. Kotonowaka got behind Kirishima and forced the ozeki out from his back. Kirishima succumbs to his 3rd loss. Kotonowaka and Terunofuji tie for the lead.

13th day
Asanoyama was back after missing 3 days. He threw Gonoyama to secure a majority win. Wakamotoharu forced Oonosho out to win his 9th bout. Kirishima kicked Hoshoryu to force him down. Kirishima won his 11th bout. Terunofuji drove out Kotonowaka who lost his 2nd bout. As a result Kotonowaka tied with Terunofuji and Kirishima.

12th day
Shodai was thrown by Shonannoumi and succumbed to a majority loss. Kotonowaka forced Oonosho on his hands and won his 11th bout. Hoshoryu with his right hand threw Takanosho to win his 10th bout. Kirishima shoves the back of Tamawashi's head prompting him to fall. It's the ozeki's 10th win. Makuuchi debutant Ohnosato faced the yokozuna as he's been performing well. It's rare that a debutant is matched to fight a yokozuna. Ohnosato clashed into Terunofuji. Terunofuji got hold of his belt and threw him out the ring. Kotonowaka keeps his lead.

11th day
Kotonowaka pushed out Ohho to keep his lead. Kirishima's one shove forced Daieisho out the ring. It's the ozeki's 9th win. Ohnosato faced an ozeki for the first time. Hoshoryu fought against him low, stopping Ohnosato to push further and gave an underarm throw to win. Terunofuji immediately got hold of Oonosho's belt and forced out. Kotonowaka remains the sole leader.

10th day
Wakamotoharu pushed out Ohho for his 7th win. Kotonowaka drove out Ohnosato for his 9th win. It's Ohnosato's 2nd loss. Hoshoryu got hold of the back of Daieisho's belt and forced him out to secure a majority win. Kirishima and Oonosho fought a competitive bout in which in the end Kirishima won by thrusting Oonosho down. Terunofujo threw Kinbozan for his 8th win.Kotonowaka is the sole leader.

9th day
Ohnosato forced out Meisei to secure a majority win. Fans were shocked to learn Asanoyama pulled out from the tourney. He sustained an injury the previous day. Ohnosho was given an automatic win, a majority win. Hokutofuji also withdrew and Tobizaru earned his 5th win. Kotonowaka got hold of Daieisho and drove hims out for his 8th win. Kirishima in a close bout was given a win pushing out Shodai. Hoshoryu drove out Ryuden. Terunofuji managed to force Nishikigi out. Kotonowaka, Ohnosato, Oonosho tie for the lead.

8th day
Ohnosato pushed out Endo for his 7th win. Asanoyama fell of the ring to Tamawashi's throw. It's his first loss. Shodai who defeated the yokozuna the previous day lost to Abi's attack against his throat. Kotonowaka was automatically given a win as his competitor Takayasu withdrew from the tourney. Daieisho thrust down Midorifuji for his 6th win. Hoshoryu forced Hokutofuji down the ring. Hokutofuji needed help to get up, and was wheelchaired off. Kirishima pulled away and was driven out by Tobizaru taking his 2nd loss. Terunofuji struggled but was able to force out Ryuden for his 6th win. Kotonowaka, Ohnosato, Oonosho and Asanoyama tie for the lead.

7th day
Ohnosato easily drove out Taiho's grandson, Ohsho. It's the first time they faced eachother since high school. Asanoyama forced out Meisei to keep his record clean. Mitakeumi pushed down Shonannoumi for his 4th win. Takayasu lost to Wakamotoharu. Daieisho gave thrusts and defeated Ura for his 5th win. Kotonowaka forced out Ryuden for his 6th win. Kirishima and Hokurofuji prompted the refree to fall during their bout. The refree picked up his headwear, and continued on with his job. In a competitive bout, Kirishima won by forcing Hokutofuji down. Hoshoryu forced Tobizaru out the ring for his 5th win. Shodai went down low into Terunofuji, and drove the yokozuna out. It's Terunofuji's 2nd loss.

6th day
Asanoyama pulled back and managed to force down Nishikigi for his 6th win. Takayasu was back after missing 3 days of the tourney. He threw Ura for his 2nd win. Kotonowaka lost his first bout to Wakamotoharu. Atamifuji drove down Daieisho on his belly to succumb to his 2nd loss. Abi gave a big thrust and forced Hoshoryu to fall. Kirishima forced Gonoyama out the ring for his 5th win. Tobizaru slapped Terunofuji's face. Terunofuji said he was angry. He kept on fighting and pushed out Tobizaru. Asanoyama is the sole leader.

5th day
Asanoyama forced out Hiradoumi to win his 5th bout. Daieisho defeated Wakamotoharu with thrusts for his 4th win. Kirishima prompted Abi's foot to leave the ring. Gonoyama quicky drove Hoshoryu out the ring. Terunofuji pushed out Hokutofuji.

4th day
Asanoyama drove out Hokuseiho for his 4th win. Daieisho forced down Shodai. Ura was given a win as his opponent for the day Takakeisho pulled out. Hoshoryu drove down Wakamotoharu for his 4th win. Midorifuji forced Kirishima to fall forward. It's Kirishima's first loss. Terunofuji drove down Gonoyama.

3rd day
Former ozeki Takayasu withdrew from the tourney complaining of a back pain that's existed the previous day. His opponent Gonoyama was automatically given a win. Mitakeumi pushed Hokuseiho out for his 2nd win. Asanoyama drove out Shonannoumi for his 3rd win. Former ozeki Shodai lost to Nishikigi. Hoshoryu managed to drive down Ura. Atamifuji charged into Kirishima. Then Kirishima stopped him and forced Atamifuji out. Wakamotoharu gave thrusts to defeat Takakeisho. It's the ozeki's first loss. Terunofuji struggled against Abi, but in the end pulled Abi's arm and forced him down.

2nd day
In a bout which exceed 2 minutes, the tall Hokuseiho managed in the end to throw Meisei for his first win. Hiradoumi forced Mitakeumi out the ring. Asanoyama quickly drove Kinbouzan out the ring. Kirishima powerfully pushed out Takayasu. Takakeisho managed to drive out Atamifuji. Hoshoryu quickly pushed out Midorifuji. Terunofuji was unable to push forward, succumbing to his first loss in an over 1 minute bout against Wakamotoharu.

First day
2-time amateur sumo champion, Ohnosato fought his first bout in makuuchi. The 23 year old reached the division in just 4 tourneys. He immediately forced down Bushozan. Mitakeumi pushed out Meisei in a retaken bout after a draw. Asanoyama fought low against Ichiyamamoto and drove him out. Shodai withstood attacks by Tobizaru and won with a push out. Takayasu who is now sekiwake pushed out Hokutofuji. Daieisho with thrusts drove down Gonoyama. Takakeisho powerfully forced out Midorifuji. Hoshoryu with his right drove out Atamifuji. Kirishima shifted to the side, forcing Wakamotoharu to fall. Terunofuji is back after missing 2 full tourneys. The sole yokozuna got hold of Ura's elbow, swung him and pushed him out.

Former Terao passes
On Dec 17 a former popular sekiwaki, Terao, who later headed stable Shikoroyama dies. He died from congestive heart failure. He had tight muscles, and his good looks won him lot of fans. He was 60. His 2 other brothers were also sumo wrestlers. But both died before him.
