Final day
Aoiyama lost to Ishiura ending the tourney 11-4. Kotonowaka forced down former ozeki Tochinoshin. It's Kotonowaka's 9th win. Chiyomaru was initially the winner of the bout against Yutakayama, but the juries reversed the call, giving the bout to Yutakayama who with this clinched a majority win. Tamawashi pushed out Tokushoryu, the winner of last grand tourney. Tokushoryu finished 4-11. Okinoumi forced down Kotoshogiku. Okinoumi clinched a majority win, while the former ozeki took his 8th loss. Takanosho pushed down Shodai for his 12th win. Takakeisho lost to Asanoyama, finished with a majority loss. Asanoyama is likely to be promoted to ozeki next tourney. Two yokozunas faced eachother. Hakuho forced out Kakuryu for his 44th grand tournament victory. Held with no spectators, the last day was hyped up a bit. Usually, the Emperor's Cup winner is the only rikishi who attends the awards ceremony. But all makuuchi rikishi surrounded the ring. Hakuho was presented with the Emperor's Cup and the Prime Minister's trophy. To wrap up the tournament, young rikishi lifted up the refree as a symbolic gesture to bid farewell to the god of sumo.

14th day
Takanosho gave Mitakeumi thrusts and pushed him out for his 11th win. Mitakeumi took his 4th loss. Takakeisho beat Oonosho with thrust for his 7th win. Hakuho with his left threw the heavy Aoiyama down the ring, and the yokozuna rolled down the ring too. It's Hakuho's 12th win. Kakuryu and Asanoyama threw eachother at the verge of the ring. The gyoji gave the bout to Asanoyama. But the judges reviewed the bout, and declared Asanoyama's arm touched the dirt first, and gave Kakuryu the win. Hakuho and Kakuryu lead for the Emperor's Cup.

13th day
Former ozekis fought eachother. Kotoshogiku drove out Tochinoshin for his 7th win. The Georgian succumbed to a majority loss. Aoiyama pulled back succumbing to Takanosho's shoves, lost his 2nd bout. Mitakeumi drove out Takarafuji for his 10th win. Kakuryu drove out Takakeisho. Hakuho pushed out Asanoyama. There are now 3 tied for the lead with 2 losses. It's Hakuho, Kakuryu and Aoiyama.

12th day
Kotoshogiku fell to Nishikigi's shove taking his 6th loss. Chiyomaru pushed down Tochinoshin. It's his 6th win and his first since recovering from a high fever. Aoiyama shoved and shoved to push out Mitakeumi. Asanoyama forced down Takanosho. Takakeisho managed to force down Ryuden. Hakuho slapped Shodai several times, but Shodai got hold of the yokozuna and drove him out. It's Hakuho's 2nd loss. Kakuryu managed to throw Endo while pulling back. The sole leader is Aoiyama.

11th day
Aoiyama gave thrusts after thrusts to defeat Kotonowaka. Chiyomaru was back after a high fever. It was due to a germ entering his scar. It was not from Covid-19. He was forced out by Kotoshogiku. Tochinoshin drove down Kagayaki for his 5th win. Mitakeumi drove Daieisho out from behind for his 9th win. Takanosho defeated Ishiura for his 9th win. Asanoyama smoothly forced out Raiden also for his 9th win. Takakeisho lost to Abi taking his 6th loss. Kakuryu pushed out Shodai. Hakuho immediately forced out Hokutofuji to keep the lead.

10th day
Aoiyama gave thrusts to drive out Shimanoumi for his 9th win. Mitakeumi pushed out Endo to secure a majority win. Asanoyama forced Enho out to also clinch a majority win. Takakeisho was pushed out by Shodai. Both are 5-5. Oonosho forced Hakuho out. It's Hakuho's first loss. Kakuryu drove out Ryuden for his 8th win.

9th day
It's reported that Chiyomaru who pulled out on the 8th day has very high fever. If he tests positive for COVID19, the tourney will be terminated. As to the major bouts, Aoiyama pushed out Chiyotairyu for his 8th win. Takanosho pushed out Tamawashi also to secure a majority win. Enho was forced out by Endo. Asanoyama managed to drive out Shodai for his 7th win. Takakeisho was forced out the ring by Yutakayama. It's the ozeki's 4th loss. Kakuryu forced out Abi. Hakuho pushed out Ryuden to keep the lead.

8th day
Shimanoumi drove out Kotoshogiku. Tochinoshin managed to throw Tamawashi for his 3rd win. Asanoyama was driven out the ring by Yutakayama, taking his 2nd loss. Takakeisho managed to push out Hokutofuji. Hakuho forced down Abi to secure a majority win. Kakuryu pushed out Mitakeumi. Hakuho remain the sole leader.

7th day
Kotoshogiku threw Meisei for his 4th win. Terutsuyoshi threw Bulgarian Aoiyama who succumbed to his first loss. Asanoyama managed to force down Endo for his 6th win. Takakeisho drove Tokushoryu down for his 4th win. Kakuryu kept Enho away from him and pushed him down. Hakuho shoved forward and drove out Mitakeumi to keep his record clean. It's Mitakeumi's first loss.

6th day
Kotoshogiku managed to get a hold of Ohamami, and walked him out for his 3rd win. Tochinoshin lost again, this time to Ishiura's throw. Mitakeumi managed to drive out Asanoyama for his 6th win. Takakeisho drove out Enho foor his 3rd win. Hakuho immediately forced out Yutakayama for his 6th win. Last tourney champion Tokushoryu drove out Kakuryu for his first win.

5th day
Kotoshogiku drove out Ishiura for his 2nd win. Tochinoshin's effort to lift Terunotsuyoshi did not end the way he wanted. The Georgian was forced down. Enho forced Okinoumi out the ring for his 2nd win. Asanoyama did not have to fight to win his 5th bout. His opponent Takayasu pulled out. Takakeisho easily lost to Mitakeumi.It's Mitakeumi's 5th win. Kakuryu pushed out Yutakayama. Hakuho struggled against Tokushoryu but managed to throw him with his left for his 5th win.

4th day
Endo drove down Tokushoryu. Last tourney champion has yet to win a bout. Asanoyama threw Hokutofuji with his right an won again. Enho was powerfully pushed out by Shodai. Daieisho pushed out Takakeisho. It's the ozeki's 2nd loss. Hakuho picked up Okinoumi and drove him out for his 4th win. Kakuryu had a tough bout against Takayasu, but in the end thrust the former ozeki down. Takayasu could not get up for quite a while.

3rd day
Tochinoshin got hold of Kiribayama's belt and drove him out for his first win. Enho and Yutakayama stopped during the bout, held eachothers hands high, and fought a slow sumo. Then in the end, Yutakayama pushed down the little rikishi in a 1 minute 30 second bout. Asanoyama pushed out Daieisho. Takakeisho gave powerful thrusts to drive out Endo. Kakuryu forced out Okinoumi. Hakuho struggled against Takayasu, but in the end drove out the former ozeki.

2nd day
Chiyotairyu pushed out Tochinoshin who lost his 2nd bout. Enho managed to throw Ryuden for his first win. Asanoyama forced Tokushoryu down for his 2nd win. Shodai drove Takayasu down on his knee for his 2nd win. Takakeisho touches the dirt first after giving in to Okinoumi's shoved. The ozeki loses his first bout. Hakuho gave Daieisho a throw and wins. Hokutofuji forced Kakuryu down the ring. It's the yokozuna's first loss.

1st day
The stands of the gymnasium were almost empty, there were members of the Japan Sumo Association and media. Ikioi shoved out former ozeki Kotoshogiku. Sadanoumi drove out former ozeki Tochinoshin. Enho was pushed down by Mitakeumi. Shodai drove out last tourney champion Tokushoryu. Asanoyama forced out Takayasu. Kakuryu stepped aside to drive out Daieisho. Hakuho immediately force Endo to fall forward to win.

No spectator tourney
Japan Sumo Association decided on March 1 to hold the grand sumo tournament in Osaka as scheduled despite the spread of the novel corona virus. However, it will not accommodate any spectators. And if a rikishi reports of fever 2 days in a row, that rikishi will have to pull out from the tourney. If a rikishi contracts the virus, the tourney will be cancelled.
