Final day
Daieisho pushed out Akiseyama to secure a majority win. Aoiyama forced Takayasu down. The Bulgarian won his 11th bout. Takanosho pushed out Tochinoshin to secure his 8th win. Tochinoshin finished with a majority loss. Takakeisho pushed Terunofuji then tried to force a throw by grabbing the Mongolian's arm, but failed to get a good grip. Terunofuji forced out Takakeisho and with this win, clinched the grand tourney Emperor's Cup. It's his 3rd victory. In the final bout 2 ozeki faced eachother. Asanoyama threw Shodai and won his 10th bout. Terunofuji is promoted back to ozeki for the upcoming tournament.

14th day
Aoiyama forced Wakatakekage down for his 10th win. Takayasu forced a throw while Tobizaru gave a kick and both went down. The judges reviewed the bout, concluded, Takayasu fell first for his 4th loss. Takakeisho pushed and pushed to drive out Shodai, and won his 10th bout. Terunofuji and Asanoyama performed a competitive bout. In the end Terunofuji drove the ozeki out. Terunofuji is the sole leader.

13th day
Aoiyama powerfully pushed out Tobizaru for his 9th win. Takayasu lost to Wakatakekaze's throw and succumbed to his 3rd loss. Takakeisho moved quickly, turning his position then driving Asanoyama down. Both are 9-4. Terunofuji quickly drives out Shodai to win his 10th bout. Takayasu and Terunofuji tie for the lead.

12th day
Aoiyama attached Ooamami's throat and drove him out for a majority win. Mesei forced out Tobizaru. Both are 8-4. Takayasu pushed out Hokutofuji for his 10th win. Terunofuji struggled against Tamawashi but in the end managed to force him down. With this chance, Terunofuji inches close to regain ozeki ranking. Asanoyama forces Mitakeumi out. Shodai drives Takanosho down for his 7th win. Takakeisho flies against Okinoumi to drive him out. Takakeisho secures a majority win, and retains his ozeki rank.

11th day
Kakuryu announced he was retiring and become stable master Kakuryu. As to major bouts, Tobizaru was in danger of losing to Kotoeiko's throw but kept his left foot in while falling and was giving the win. Tobizaru secured a majority win. Terunofuji got hold of Takanosho's belt from behind and drove him out. Terunofuji won a majority win. Shodai forced Takayasu to roll on the ring. It's Takaysu's 2nd loss. But he still leads. Takakeisho gave thrusts to force out Kiribayama winning his 7th bout. Asanoyama clinced a majority win by driving out Myogiryu.

10th day
Chiyonokuni pulls away from Okinoumi and faces defeat. It's his 3rd loss. Terunofuji had several opportunities to push out Shimanoumi but could not. In the end, Shomanoumi rolled him on the dirt. It's the former ozeki's 3rd loss. Takakeisho and Takayasu fought over 2 minutes. They started by hitting eachother than stopped, watching eachother for over a minute. Then Takakeisho kicked Takayasu. Takayasu threw him and won. Asanoyama threw Takanosho for his 6th win. Shodai drove out Myogiryu. Both are 5-5. Takayasu improved his lead.

9th day
Chiyonokuni forced down Tamawashi for his 7th win. Takayasu attacks Oonosho, pulls back, then thrusts him down to be the first to secure a majority win. Terunofuji take Myogiryu out the ring for his 7th win. Asanoyama charges into Shimanoumi and wins his 6th bout. Daieisho shoves Shodai powerfully and wins. It's the ozeki's 5th loss. Takakeisho drives out Mitakeumi for his 6th win. Takayasu continues to lead.

8th day
In the juryo division, a dream bout took place. It's between the two small rikishi, Enho and Ura. They fought aggressively, falling off the ring. The judges ruled Enho was out first. In the makuuchi division, Tochinoshin fell against Midorifuji. Both are 3-5. Two top contenders and former ozeki faced eachother. Takayasu managed to fight in an advantageous position and drove out Terunofuji. Takayasu is now the sole leader with 7 wins. Shodai drove out Kiribayama for his 4th win. Takakeisho pushed out Myogiryu for his 5th win. Asanoyama was powerless. He was pushed out by Daieisho, winner of last Emperor's Cup.

7th day
Takayasu and Takarafuji fought for a long time. At 2 minutes 59 seconds, the former ozeki throws Takarafuji down with his right for his 6th win. Terunofuji easily drives out Mitakeumi for hits 6th win. Takakeisho is pushed out by Meisei taking his 3rd loss. Asanoyama is driven out by Kiribayama. Shodai manages to throw Shimanoumi to win his 3rd bout.

6th day
The only rikishi with a perfect record so far, Myogiryu lost to Hokutofuji. He ties with Takayasu who forced Mitakeumi out. Also ties with Terunofuji who carried Kiribayama out the ring. Asanoyama smoothly drove out Wakatakakage. Shodai lost to Meisei taking his 4th loss. Takakeisho gave thrusts and forced Shimanoumi out for his 4th win. 6 are tied for the Emperor's Cup.

5th day
Tochinoshin forced Okinoumi out for his 3rd win. Myogiryu beat Ichinojo to be the only one with a perfect record. Takayasu pushed out Kiribayama for his 4th win. Daieisho pushed out Mitakeumi to win his first bout. Terunofuji succumbed to his first loss against Oonosho. Wakatakakage forced Shodai out. It's the ozeki's 3rd loss. Takakeisho also lost. It's to Hokutofuji. Asanoyama got hold of Meisei's belt and drove him out. Myogiryu is the sole leader.

4th day
Tochinoshin threw Kagayaki for his 2nd win. Takayasu managed to shift his position to force Daieisho to fall. Daieisho, last tourney champion, has not yet won a bout. Meisei appeared to be in control against Terunofuji. But the former ozeki was able to recover his position and threw Meisei to win his 4th bout. Takakeisho gave thrusts and pushed out Takarafuji. Asanoyama was shoved to the verge of the ring, but shifted his position to the side, forcing Oonosho to fall. Hakutofuji banged into Shodai and won. Both finished the bout with blood stains.

3rd day
Hakuho pulled out of the tourney. It was announced he has injured his joint and will have surgery. In August last year, he had a knee surgery. Oonosho who was supposed to fight Hakuho was given a win. As to key bouts of the day, Tochinoshin pushed out Kotonowaka to win his first bout. Takayasu pushed out Shimanoumi. Terunofuji pushed out Daieisho for his 3rd win. Asanoyama forced Hokutofuji to fall. Shodai quickly drove out Takarafuji. Wakatakakage forced out Takakeisho.

2nd day
Tochinoshin was driven down by Tamawashi. Endo was thrown by Kiribayama. Terunofuji squeezed Wakakake's arm between his and pushed him out. Shodai pushed out Oonosho for his first win. Takakeisho forced Daieisho on his hand. Takayasu had control of the bout and forced down Asanoyama for his first win. Hakuho took his time to throw Takarafuji and won.

First day
The tourney started with over 20 rikishi suspended due to close contact with COVID-19 positive coaches. Former ozeki Tochinoshin lost to Ichinojo. Takayasu seemed to gain a good position but lost to Meisei. Wakatakekaze who was back after suffering from COVID-19 with high fever had to fight twice after no winner could be declared in the first attempt against Takanosho. In the end Wakatakekaze lost. Terunofuji has a chance to return to ozeki ranking depending on his performance this tourney. He's off to a good start by throwing Hokutofuji. Takakeisho who lost 17 kilos before this tourney quickly drove out Oonosho. Asanoyama forced Takarafuji down on his belly. Shodai was driven down by Mitakeumi. Hakuho who was back at the grand tourney slapped Daieisho then forced him down while he himself also fell down the ring. It's the first win for the yokozuna in 229 days.

Azumazeki stable to close
Azumazeki stable was opened by Takamiyama in 1986. Takamiyama,the jolly big rikishi from Hawaii formerly known as Jesse became Japanese and became Daigoro Watanabe. He raised Akebono to become Yokozuna. Another famous rikishi he raised was Takamisakari who reached the rank of Komusubi. But, it was a lower ranking Ushiomaru who took over the stable after Jesse retired. Ushiomaru died in 2019. Takamisakari temporary took over the reigns, but decided to merge with Hakkaku in April.

Kakuryu pulls out from the tourney
Kakuryu decides to pull out from this tourney. It's the 5th tourney in a row he will be absent. But the 35 year old wants to continue sumo
