Panorama TOKYO : Ueno-Sakuragi

The Kan-eiji Temple is located at the north-edge of Ueno Hill. That is the family temple of the successive Tokugawa Shoguns at Edo. The whole of the hill, today occupied by Ueno Park famous for its cherry blossoms, was the precincts of the temple in the Edo period. But most buildings of the old temple were burned in 1868. The present temple was relocated from Kitain at Kawagoe, Saitama prefecture in 1879.

The cherry petals with light pink please our eyes every spring. Especially the combination of the wooden temple and cherry blossoms is one of the most beautiful scenery in Japan.
