The huge redevelopment of JR Tokyo Station has begun.
It's the big project for JR since
the red-brick station building on the Marunouchi side was completed in 1914.
Several buildings are now under construction around the station.
Before the start of the project, Marunouchi Building
(37 stories and 180 m high) was opened at the center of
the Marunouchi district in September 2002.
Here on the Yaesu side of the station too, twin tower buildings
(40 stories and 200 m high) will be completed in 2010, and will bring about a lot of changes in the scenery.
Yaesu is famous for downtown centers adjacent to Nihonbashi and the big underground shopping arcade directly led to the entrance of the station.
We are sorry that such a comfortable sidewalk in the sunshine will be shaded by the high-rise buildings in the near future.
