The East Garden, the grounds of
the Imperial Palace, is open to the public since 1968.
There used to be the main building house of Edo Castle.
You are surprised to see such a vast green area here in the center of Tokyo.
On the site of Tenshukaku Donjon Base of Edo Castle, you can see a green panorama with the background of the buildings at Otemachi.
The Tenshukaku Donjon, 50 m in height, was completed under the 3rd Tokugawa Shogun Iemitsu in 1638.
But it was burnt down in the conflagration of 1657, and it has never since been reconstructed.
This site is often visited by overseas tourists from season to season.
