@About DANCE COMPANY Nomade~s

Incorporated as a Dance Company in 1992, Nomade~s has been active in the contemporary dance field under the tutelage of company leader Noriko Kumagai and Nakao Ikemiya.
Nomade~s claims to search for undiscovered methods of expression that fit our modern society. Nomade~s actively conducts performances, workshops and lectures in order to influence not only dancers but also other performers and artists in all facets of presentation. And Nomade~s is increasingly winning supporters with 40 performances in 14 cities all over the world.
Nomade~s richness in experience and achievement is such that they continue to push themselves to new levels of expression and meaning.

NORIKO KUMAGAI
(Director, Choreographer)

Ms. Kumagai is both director and choreographer of Nomade~s performances. She also demonstrates unusual talent as a solo dancer. She performed the "Imaginaryc" Series in 1989 and established the new dance group, "Movement Laboratory Nomade~s," and succeeded in leading it to become the now distinguished company known as Nomade~s. She began taking modern dance lessons when she was 18 years old. She has studied modern dance under Keiko Yokoyama, Midori Ishii, Katsuko Orita and Kinuko Nishina, and participated in many of their performances.

NAKAO IKEMIYA
(Director, Choreographer)

Mr. Ikemiya joined Nomade~s in 1992. Before that, Mr. Ikemiya was a dancer, producer and choreographer in many dance performances from 1983. His diverse talent led him to such stage effects as costume, music, lighting and stage properties. When he was in Europe (1989-1990), he produced many highly regarded solo works. Returning to Japan in 1990, he performed in many "happenings" solo performances in Okayama, Tokyo, Osaka and Yokohama in Japan, as well as in Seoul, Korea. Before 1983, Mr. Ikemiya was an artist. Mr. Ikemiya produces dance workshops at the Meguro Museum and the Setagaya Public Theater Dance Hakushu and Art Universities.
