Grand slam guy quits
The BayStars Norihiro Komada said on Jan 18 that he has decided to retire. After the BayStars released him, Komada was seeking a place with other teams. But the 38 year old decided to give up. Komada recorded his 2000th base hit last season to get him into the prestigious "meikyukai". He's become the 29th such player. He was the 2nd draft pick for the Tokyo Giants in 1981, and joined Yokohama in 1993.

Matsuzaka starts practice
Pacific League most win earner Daisuke Matsuzaka of the Lions started to warm up for the coming season on Jan. 7. He said that he did not want to commit the same mistake he had last season to give him a poor start in the season. Matsuzaka was in Okinawa with pitching teammates.
