It's the final game of the season for Ichiro. In the 3rd inning, he had a base hit. So did he in the 8th inning. The Mariners lost this game 0 to 3 to the Texas Rangers, but Ichiro secured the leading hitter title finishing the season with a batting average of .372. It's the 2nd time for him to clinch the title.

A special ceremony was held just before the game to celebrate Ichiro's baseball record. He was even presented a cap signed by George Sisler from his grand son. He swung out, his first at bat. But in the 5th inning, he hit to center to extend his record. The Mariners however lost 4 to 10 to the Texas Rangers.

Safecco Field was packed with more than 46,000 fans in hopes of witnessing Ichiro break the record. And he responded. Camera flashes was enormous during every pitch to Ichiro. But it seemed not to bother him. In the first inning, he grounded the ball which went to the left field. It's a record tying hit. In the 3rd inning, he made a hit again to break George Sisler's 84 year old record. Fireworks celebrated. And the Mariners team all rushed to Ichiro on first base to celebrate. And that wasn't all. Ichiro had an infield hit in the 6th inning. His career total has reached 259 hits.
Michiyo's Note: In Japan, Ichiro's been watched very closely. And it's all over the place in the news. Even Prime Minister Koizumi congratulated him as a number of baseball stars such as Sadaharu Oh and Shigeo Nagashima. His former Mariners teammate Kazuhiro Sasaki said he's left a congratulatory message on Ichiro's answering machine.

In the 6th inning with runners on first and third, he was able to hit the ball. He also had base hits in the 8th and 9th innings. He only needs 10 more hits to reach the record held by George Sisler. The Mariners clinched this game from the Anaheim Angels 16 to 6.

It was an amazing Ichiro. In the first inning, he hit himself on base. So did he in the 2nd inning. In the 4th, he got on base to an infield hit. In the 6th, he hit to the left. In all he had 5 base hits. The Marines defeated the Anaheim Angels 7 to 3.

In the 5th inning, Ichiro had a lucky hit to 2nd. He then stole to 2nd base. He was eventually able to come home. Ichiro also had a infield hit in the 6th inning. The Mariners lost to the Anaheim Angels 2 to 5.

In the 5th inning Ichiro had a 2 base hit. But since his opponent fumbled the ball he was able to advance to third. He was unable to hit off Shingo Takatsu of the Chicago White Sox in their first meeting in the MLB. The Mariners lost 5 to 7.

Ichiro was chosen August's MVP. The first time he's been given the title. And he proved he was worth it. He hit himself on base 3 times. He also stole base. But the Mariners lost 6 to 8 against the Toronto BlueJays.

A shock for Ichiro. In the 3rd inning he was hit in the head by a pitch. Ichiro could not get up for awhile. He was out of the game after the incident. The Mariners lost 2 to 3 against the Kansas City Royals.

Ichiro had just one hit the previous day. He exploded this day against the New York Yankees. He had 3 hits including a home run. He stole base twice too. The Mariners won 7 to 3.

Ichiro was incredible again. He hit to center, he tripled, he also made it to first on a grounded ball. The Mariners again lost to the Baltimore Orioles 3 to 6.

The Mariners played a double header against the Baltimore Orioles. In the first game, Ichiro tripled and had in all 5 hits. He didn't start the 2nd game, but in the 8th inning, he had a base hit. But the Mariners lost both games. The first one 7 to 9. The 2nd one 4 to 5.

All Star Game, July 13
Ichiro was on the starting line-up. He faced Roger Clemens and doubled off him. Ichiro thereafter came home on Ivan Rodrigues's hit. The American League beat the National League 9 to 4.

Ichiro had 2 hits this time, but his team lost 8 to 10 against the Toronto Blue Jays.
