Ichiro played had no hits in 5 games before this, a record worse for him. This time, he managed to hit himself on base. it was in the 1st and 6th innings. But the Mariners lost to the Chicago White Sox 2 to 4.

Ichiro homered in the 4th inning. Then in the 6th inning, with the game a tie, Ichiro gave his team a lead with another home run. The Mariners beat the Cleveland Indians 3 to 2.

Continuing to hit well, Ichiro got himself on base in the 5th inning. With runners on first and 2nd, he hit home a runner. But again, his team lost to the Cleveland Indians 5 to 10.

Ichiro had a base hit in the 3rd inning. In the 5th he tripled. It7s his 10th this season. And he also had a base hit in the 7th inning. The Mariners, however, lost to the Cleveland Indians 5 to 6.

All Star Game
The game was held in Detroit on Jul 12. Ichiro was not in the starting line-up. He was first out in the field in the 4th inning. And he was up to bat with runners on 2nd and 3rd. He had a base hit to earn an RBI. It made him the first Japanese to make an RBI in an all star game. The American League won 7 to 5 over the National League.

The ball reached home before him, by he tried to give an acrobatic move and touch home. The umpire called out. But after the game, the catcher is reported to have said that he did not touch Ichiro. In any case the Mariners beat the Boston Red Sox 5 to 4.

In the first inning,Ichiro hit himself on base. And that led to runs batted in. In the 4th, he slammed his 3rd home run of the season. He had another base hit, but his team lost to the NY Yankees 9 to 13.

Ichiro faced the NY Yankees Randy Johnson for the first time. In the 3rd inning, he hit himself on base. In the 5th, he hit in a run. He tried to steal to 2nd but was killed. The Mariners lost 3 to 4.
