KAZUHISA ISHII WITH THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS IN 2002

Ishii makes public appearance
On Sept 18, Ishii visited his teammates and held a press conference. He showed that he was recovering well after a surgery to remove chiped nose bones. He is not expected to pitch anymore this season.

September 8
Ishii was hurt. A line drive of Houston Astros'Brian Hunter slammed into his forehead. Ishii was down, and his coaches came rushing to him. He was placed in neck brace and taken away on the ambulance. He was diagnosed with a small skull fracture. The Astros won 6 to 2. Ishii lost his 10th game.

September 3
Ishii was back as a starter. It was in the 6th inning he was in trouble, loading the bases. He was off, but without losing an RBI. The Dodgers won 3 to 2 over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ishii won his 14th game.

August 25
It was a very short game for Ishii. He was off the mound in 1 inning, giving up 5 runs, including a 3 run homer to Atlanta Braves Chipper Jones. And the outcome of the game was a 7 to 5 win for the Braves.

August 20
Ishii was on for 5 innings. He lost 3 runs. The Dodgers failed to defeat the Florida Marlins finishing the game 3 to 6. Ishii had to take his 8th loss.

August 14
Ishii lost 2 runs in the first inning. But he recovered soon after, and hurled 6 0/3 innings. The Dodgers won 5 to 2 over the Montreal Expos, and Ishii earned his 13th win.

August 8
Ishii hurled 5 innings and gave up 4 runs. He had the chance to earn a win when he finished his job. But the Dodgers were caught up by the Pittsburgh Pirates. In the end, the Dodgers won 10 to 5.

August 3
Ishii gave up 5 innings, but was saved from not taking a loss. His team in a 12 inning game beat the Philadephia Phillies 8 to 6.

July 30
Ishii pitched the shortest innings in the US Major Leagues. He lost a whooping 8 runs in just 2 2/3 innings. The Dodgers faced overwhelming defeat of 4 to 12 to the Cincinnatti Reds.

July 24
Ishii lost 3 runs in 6 1/3 innings. His team gave up more runs after that and lost the game 0 to 8 to the San Diego Padres. Ishii took his 6th loss.

July 19
Ishii was doing all right. He faced San Francisco Giants' Tsuyoshi Shinjo for the first time in the US, but he did not give up any hits in his 3 times at bat. Ishii, in 6 innings gave up 2 runs . But in the 12th inning the San Francisco Giants clinched the game 3 to 2.

July 14
Ishii earned his 12th win. He pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dodgers won 2 to 1.

July 4
Ishii did not do bad. He lost only 3 runs in 6 innings. But he did not get enough back up. The Dodgers lost to the St Louis Cardinals 2 to 3, and Ishii took his 5th loss..

June 29
Ishii didn't last very long. He hurled 3 2/3 innings and gave up 5 runs. The Dodgers lost 0 to 7 to the Anaheim Angels. Ishii succumbed to his 4th loss.

June 24
Ishii was not doing so bad but by giving up 3 runs in 7 innings, and the Dodgers not supporting him much, his team lost 1 to 4 to the Colorado Rockies. Ishii took his 3rd loss.

June 19
Ishii was good with the bat too. With bases full he hit, and recorded two RBIs. On the mound, he pitched 6 2/3 innings lossing just 2 runs. He struck out 9. And he earned his 11th win in th 5 to 2 game over the Toronto Blue Jays.

June 14
In the 3rd inning, Ishii was in a mess. He erred, and got bases full. He wild pitched too. He only pitched 3 0/3 innings giving up 6 runs. And as the Dodgers lost 4 to 8 to the Anaheim Angels, Ishii had to take his 2nd loss.

June 8
Ishii appeared to be in trouble as in the first inning he lost a 3 run homer. But his team went for more runs. And he managed to hang in there. Ishii hurled 6 1/3 innings giving up in total 4 runs. The Dodgers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 8 to 4. Ishii clinched his 10th win.

June 2
Ishii won again. He gave up just 2 runs in 6 innings, already clinching his 9th win. The Dodgers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 6 to 3.

May 28
Ishii started out bad. He gave up 4 runs in 3 innings. But after that, he recovered and hurled a total 6 2/3 innings. As his team hit well, the the Dodgers won 8 to 4 over the Milwaukee Brewerers, and Ishii earned his 8th win.

May 23
Ishii delayed his starting day to May 23 as he needed to recover from a pain in his thigh. He gave up 2 runs in 5 1/3 innings. His team batted well smashing the Milwaukee Brewers 16 to 3.

May 15
Ishii did not do bad at all on May 15. He only gave up one run during 7 innings. But his team could not help him. The Dodgers lost 0 to 2 to the NY Mets. It's Ishii's first loss in the US Major Leagues.

May 10
When Ishii left the mound after hurling 6 1/3 innings, the Dodgers was behind the Florida Marlins by 2 runs. Lucky for him, the Dodgers caught up with the Marlins in the 9th inning meaning Ishii was exempted from taking a loss. However in the end, the Marlins won 4 to 3.

May 4
Ishii started against the Chicago Cubs. Sammy Sosa homered off him. But he had the support of his teammates. Ishii hurled 7 innings giving up in all 2 runs. He clinched his 6th win to tie with Randy Johnson. The Dodgers won 3 to 2. Ishii, by the way, was chosen April MVP the day before.

April 28
Ishii started. He lasted longer than ever hurling 7 innings. He gave up only one run, which was a homer run in the first inning. The Dodgers in the end managed to win 5 to 4 over the Chicago Cubs.

April 23
Ishii started for the LA Dodgers for the 4th time. And although he gave up 6 runs in 5 innings, the Dodgers batted in runs to exceed his losses. Ishii in the end earned his 4th win in the 9 to 6 game over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

April 17
It's for the first time Ishii was scored. The Colorado Rockies secured 3 runs off him in 6 innings. But as the Dodgers hit well, Ishii clinched his 3rd win in the 6 to 3 game.

April 12
Ishii started for the 2nd time. He only gave up 2 base hits, and no runs, staying on until the end of the 6th inning. And his team defeated the San Diego Padres 3 to 0. It's Ishii's second win already.

April 6
Ishii made his US Major League debut. And it was a fantastic debut. He struck out 10 in 5 2/3 inning. He did not give up any runs. The LA Dodgers defeated the Colorado Rockies 9 to 2.

Ishii joins LA Dodgers
It appeared from initial reports that Kazuhisa Ishii's agent was having a difficult time coming to an agreement with the LA Dodgers on a contract. But finally on Feb 8, the stage was set for Ishii. He won a 4 year contract for 12.3 million dollars. 28 year old Ishii played for the Yakult Swallows.
