Darvish signs for the highest ever salary at 24
24 year old Yu Darvish signed for a whopping 500 million annual income with the Nippon Ham Fighters. He's the youngest ever to be paid so much. But Darvish is not without trouble. He's reported to be in talks for a divorce.

Iwakuma's talk with Oakland Athletes fail
The Oakland Athletics was reported to have won a bid to acquire Hisashi Iwakuma from the Rakuten Golden Eagles. But it was reported on Dec 8, the deal was dead. And Iwakuma will remain with the Eagles.

The Fighters win handkerchief prince
All eyes were on high school and collegiate baseball superstar Yuki Saito on Oct 28 on baseball draft day. Surprisingly, it was not Saito who was the most popular. But his Waseda University teammate Tatsuya Oishi. Oishi was names by 6 teams, while Saito only names by 4. A lottery was conducted for both. The Nippon Ham Fighters won the right to negotiate with Saito while the Seibu Lions did for Oishi. They both signed with the respective teams for their professional debut.
