Final day
Enho was thrown by Shohozan, succumbing to a majority loss. Shimanoumi pushed out Takarafuji. Then Donald Trump stole the show from the sumo wrestlers. He came into the sumo arena with his wife Melania and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Mrs Akie. While he waved for a long time at the crowd, the sumo wrestlers up next had to wait. One of them was the tournament's winner, Asanoyama. Asanoyama lost to Mitakeumi. Raiden threw the big Aoiyama to win his 10th bout. Tochinoshin and Takayasu clashed hard against eachother. Takayasu drove the Georgian down the ring as he fell too. It's the ozeki's 9th win. Goeido was driven out by Kakuryu. Kakuryu won his 11th bout. During the award ceremony, for the first time a US President presented the President's Cup. The US will present a trophy for next May(s tournament too.

14th day
Enho was on the ring, but with think tape around his leg. He fought hard but lost to Shimanoumi with his belly up. It's his 7th loss. Kotoshogiku lost again, it's to Myogiryu. Takayasu fell forward when Shodai pulled back. It's his 6th loss. Goeido got a hold of Asanoyama's belt, first, but he did not fight aggressively. The Asanoyama took charge driving the ozeki out. Who would win the Emperor's Cup was up to the yokozuna. Kakuryu faced Tochinoshin. Tochinoshin shifted position and forced Kakuryu down. Tochinoshin with his 10th win has secured his return to ozeki ranking. Asanoyama clinched the Emperor's Cup for the first time. The 25 years old is the first from Toyama to win the tourney in over a century.

13th day
Enho could not get up for awhile after the bout against Meisei. Adding to the disaster, the judges reversed the juries verdict and gave the bout to Meisei. Tamawashi drove down Kotoshogiku. The former ozeki succumbed to a majority loss. Asanoyama attacked Tochinoshin. On the verge of the ring, it appeard Tochinoshin made it inside the ring and threw Asanoyama. But the judges gave the bout to Asanoyama. Goeido gave Shodai thrusts and won his 9th bout. Takayasu and Kakuryu gave thurst, Takayasu stepped aside forcing the yokozuna out from behind. Asanoyama is the sole leader, followed by Kakuryu.

12th day
Tamawashi forced Asanowaka out. It's Asanowaka's 2nd loss. Meisei attacked Tochinoshin. Tochinoshin was powerless. The Georgian pulled back and lost his 3rd bout. Kotoshogiku threw Chiyotairyu for his 5th win. Takayashi fell on his hand to Abi's shove. Goeido managed to force a throw and defeat Takarafuji to win his 8th bout. Kakuryu charged fast and drove out Ryuden. Kakuryu and Asanowaka tie for the lead.

11th day
Enho did some strange looking squatting, but that did not prevent him from being pushed out of the ring by Tomokaze. Asanowaka in a close bout, was ruled the winner, against Sadanoumi. He won his 10th bout. Kotoshogiku shoved out Hokutofuji. Both are 4-7. Tochinoshin fell forwards in the bout against Ami, losing his 2nd bout. Goeido fell forward in the bout against Raiden. Takayasu was pushed out by Aoiyama. Kakuryu thrust then pulled back and lost to Myogiryu. All ozekis and yokozuna lost. Asanowaka is now the sole leader.

10th day
Veteran Tochiozan showed his skill against Enho, driving Enho out. Asanowaka pushed forward and forced out Shodai. Tochinoshin got hold of Mitakeumi and powerfully drove him out. Tochinoshin needs one more win to regain ozeki ranking. Takayasu pushed out Ryuden. Goeido stepped away while forcing a throw at Okinoumi and won. Kakuryu shifted away from Abi's attack on his throat and defeated his former apprentice.

9th day
An unprecedented happened. An ozeki pulled out for the 2nd time during the grand tournament. Takakesho who was back on the ring, decided to withdraw as he has multiple right knee injuries. His opponent for the day, Tochinoshin was automatically given a ring, and secured a majority win. As to the main bouts of the day, Enho pulled back and thrust down Toynoshima for his 7th win. Asanowaka forced out Ryuden and both fell off the ring. Asanowaka clinched a majority win. Aoiyama thrust out Kotoshogiku. Both are 3-6. Goeido drove down Abi. Both are 6-3. Takayasu and Myogiryu fought a long bout, were both tried to change skills, delighting the fans. In the end, Takayasu drove out Myogiryu for his 6th win. Kakuryu immediately got hold of Okinoumi to shove him out. The 3 leaders remain unchanged.

8th day
Enho grabbed Teruyoshi's foot and won. Asanowaka thrust out Takarafuji for his 7th win. Endo forced Tochinoshin to fall forward. It's the Georgian's first loss. Takekesho returned to the ring. He went forward with his head low, while Aoiyama shifted to the side to force down the young ozeki. Takayasu managed to force out Okinoumi. Goeido, while hitting the jury forced out Mitakeumi.Both are 5-3. Tamawashi pushed out Kakuryu. It's the yokozuna's first loss. With a loss each, Kakuryu, Tochinoshin and Asanowaka tie with the most wins.

7th day
Enho fell with belly up in the bout against Teruyoshi, losing his 2nd bout. Shohozan beat Chiyomaru in a 1 minute 33 second long bout for his 4th win. Asanowaka pushed out Yoshikaze powerfully for his 6th win. Kotoshogiku pushed forward, then Tochinoshin pushed back to drive the former ozeki out. Goeido pushed out Tamawashi for his 4th win. Takayasu drove out Daieisho. Kakuryu clashed powerfully into Chiyotairyu powerfully and won.

6th day
Enho charged low burying himself inside Yago, kicked his leg, then drove Yago down on his rear. It's Enho's 4th win. Oonoshi pushed out Asanoyama. It's Asanoyama's first loss. Mitakeumi drove out Kotoshogiku. Ichinojo and Tochinoshin fought a long slow bout. In the end, the Georgian forced out the Mongolian. Tamawashi forced Takayasu from his back. It's the ozeki's 3rd loss. Goeido fell forward in the bout against Chiyotairyu and lost his 3rd bout. Kakuryu pulled back and thrust down Daiesho. Tochinoshin and Kakuryu are the only two with a perfect record.

5th day
Asanowaka threw Kagayaki for his 5th win. Kotoshogiku pushed out Endo for his 2nd win. Tochinoshin got a good hold of Hokutofuji's belt to force him out. Daieisho thrust out Goeido. Tamawashi was automatically given a win as Takekesho withdrew from the tourney injuring himself the previous day. Takayasu pulled back, remained inside the ring and forced Chiyotairyu down for his 3rd win. Kakuryu fought forward and drove out Aoiyama to keep his record clean.

4th day
Asanoyama drove out Nishiki for his 4th win. Tochinoshin was about to be pushed over, but he withheld, pushed back and drove out Tamawashi for his 4th win. Takakesho struggled against Mitakeumi but was able to win. After the bout, Takakesho cringed, walking slowly, indicating something was wrong. Takayasu had a fast strong start, shoved and shoved to take out Hokutofuji. Goeido managed to throw Kotoshogiku to win. Kakuryu's slap caused Endo to be spaced out a bit. When Endo moved, Kakuryu pushed and won.

3rd day
Enho defeated Sadanoumi by picking up his leg and making Sadanoumi lose balance. Daieiho pushed out the great big Aoiyama. Tochinoshin got hold of Okinoumi's belt and drove him out. Mitakeumi thrust down Takayasu. Goeido was driven out by Endo. It's Endo's first win. Hokutofuji charged towards Takakesho and pushed out the new ozeki. Kotoshogiku and Kakuryu both forced a throw. Kotoshogiku's head touched the dirt first. Kakuryu keeps his record clean.

2nd day
Enho this time lost to Kotoeko. Tamawashi and Mitakeumi fought aggressively. Mitakeumi managed to thrust down Tamawashi to win. Tochinoshin got hold of Daieisho and drove him out. Goeido threw down Aoiyama. Takakesho could not easily thrust Kotoshogiku, so he shifted his position slightly and forced out the former ozeki. Takayasu managed to thrust out Endo for his first win. Kakuryu charged forward and drove out Hokutofuji who went flying into the audience.

1st day
Enho, a new makuuchi rikishi who is seen as a potential new star forced out Tokushoryu to win. Aoiyama gave a powerful slap then pushed out Tamawashi. Tochinoshin who's been demoted from ozeki to sekiwaki, picked up Chiyotairyu then shoved him out. New ozeki Takakesho and the popular Endo faced eachother in a bout that attracted 41 sponsored banners. Takakeisho shoved and shove with a lot of force, Endo was easily driven out. Kotoshogiku rammed into Takayasu and pushed the ozeki out. Goeido after a slap forced Hokutofuji out. Kakuryu, the only yokozuna in this tourney pushed out Mitakeumi.

Prize money rush to sponsor Takakesho
A rush to sponsor Takakesho's bouts is enormous. 340 banners are expected to support Takakesho of the total 2150 expected to circle the ring.

Hakuho is out
Hakuho appeared in practices but he did not make any aggressive moves. On May 9, his withdrawal from the tourney was made officiea. He hurt his right arm during the previous tourney and has not recovered.
