General sports messages in 2003

Hi, Michiyo:
I discovered your sports pages while searching for up to date sumo information: thanks for your efforts in keeping overseas sumo fans informed. I became interested in sumo after Channel 4 in the UK broadcast several bashos some years ago, but now can only see it occasionally when the British Eurosport channel covers it: I keep up to date by using the Official Grand Sumo Homepage (and now yours). Since Terao retired I don't really follow any particular wrestler, although I like to see Kyokoshuzan doing well.

As a fan of Sumo for the last twelve years or so, I am very pleased to have found your site. It is very difficult getting up to date news on the Basho and the sport in general as I live in England. Thought I'd let you know I am a regular visitor to your site now. Thanks!

Hello Marilyn
Thanks for your encouraging e-mail. It really helps to keep me going and expanding my sports site. But I thought sumo was shown in England regularly during the basho since the London tour. So I guess not. Is there a particular sumo wrestler you like?
Michiyo

Hi Michiyo,
Channel 4 stopped broadcasting Sumo, really, after the London Basho! I have got videos of that and got photos of some sekitori outside their hotel. The one who caused my interest in the first place was, of course, Chiyonofuji - and I was thrilled to bits to get a picture of him, also Mitoizumi, Tochinowaka, Kirishima, and Akebono (then sekiwake). I also named a new kitten I had after Takatoriki as he was small but aggressive! Sadly, these have all retired, but I like Kaio, Tochiazuma, and the style of the new Yokozuna from the little I have been able to see of him. It is a shame about all the injuries though. I get to watch highlights of the basho every other month on Eurosport tv. I also subscribe to Sumo World magazine. I go online for day to day coverage on your site and the Sumo Kyokai site. Unfortunately, for me, England is football mad so I don't get to share my enthusiasm with anyone else here! It is my aim, one day, to get to Tokyo and spend time at a basho and visiting heya!

Dear Michiyo,
Thanks for a great web site. I was looking for information on a couple of Japanese baseball players and found exactly what I was looking for. The site is clear, easy to use, and has good information. Great work!

Hello Michiyo!
Thanks so much for a great website. I used to live in Japan, and I fell in love with sumo. It's pretty difficult to find up-to-date info on sumo, so when I found your webpage, I was extremely happy! Your website is easy to use, very useful and informative. Thanks so much! I checked almost every day during the recent New Years Basho! Anyhow, thanks again for a great website, and I look forward to going back again and again. Take care. Bill, from Canada
